joining us is nbc news' laura jarrett and katie phang by phone. laura, this just happened moments ago. what more do you have on it? >> unexpected. another significant plea deal. we see in court, jenna ellis, getting emotional, apologizing to the people of georgia, telling the judge she was led by others down this wrong path and saying she regretted her representation of the former president and all of the things that she did, along with others including rudy giuliani, which she is now pleading guilty to essentially making false statements in front of the georgia senate, around december of 2020, she goes forward, you might remember, one of those infamous press conferences, they were standing before the georgia senate talking about dead voters, talking about other false statements that they believe they were on a quest to try to find voter fraud but the state disagreed with them and now she's pleading guilty. this is enormously consequential because she is now fourth person to plead guilty in this case. you can see there, the others includingen ches

joining me, now katie phang, former florida state prosecutor and now a host of the katie phang show here greg bluestein, political reporter with the atlanta journal, msnbc contributor, and author of flipped. how georgia turned purple and broke the monopoly on republican party. katie, welcome. good to see you back at home after early morning in the studio. tell me what you are expecting when donald trump and michael cohen come face to face in a courtroom in new york. do you think the judge is getting to trump? is he lashing out, as we've seen in court, at the possibility of jail time for contempt? >> yes. i expect to see some fireworks. what we do, no, alex is that -- will be doing the questioning on behalf of donald trump when it comes to the cross examination of donald trump's former fixer, michael cohen. michael cohen has withstood hours upon hours of grilling. not only from congressional investigators, but from law enforcement. i would not be surprised to see michael cohen been able to hold his grounds, to make sure that he doesn't budge under any type of attempt to cross examination

good morning, i'm katie phang.g as we cover major breaking news out of israel. prime minister benjamin netanyahu has declared a state of war after a surprise a deadly hamas attack overnight. the ruling hamas military group of the gaza strip carried out a multi front attack within israel, launching thousands of rockets as dozens of fighters cross the country's border by air, land, and see. israel's national service says at least 22 people have been killed with the countries, within the country, and hundreds more have been wounded, making at the deadliest attack in israel that it's seen in years. dozens of israel defense forces, fighters, have reportedly struck a number of targets belonging to the hamas terrorist organization in the gaza strip. a white house official saying that the biden administration is, quote, aware, and engaged on israel. leaders from germany, france, and the european union have released statements condemning the attacks. joining me now to get started is clint watts. senior fellow at the center
