join joining me now is katie stockton. portfolio manager for the tack etf and a cnbc contributor. ppy new year and good morning, katie. >> thank you. >>> why are you bullish on financials? >> you know, they really emerged as a market leader. if you look at a ratio of xl after the s&p 500, you'll see this really attractive compelling basing phase with a breakdown in q4. so that relative performance we saw from the financial sector in q4 to me was very encouraging. it shows what had been accumulation then giving way to bre breakouts, and those breakouts occurred in absolutes and relatives. we saw it emerge from a bear market cycle, bear market range, and advantage and saw that momentum shift that was very meaningful with that. we saw the first long-term momentum behind xlf since it flipped edped to a sell signal 2022. >> we're seeing the dip at the end of october, beginning of november and then the xfl outperforms the s&p after that period. give us the sense. what's the catalyst that's going to continue this strong performance in 2024? >> you know, the charts aren't going to answer t

. >>> joining us now to talk markets, katie stockton, fair lead strategist founder and managing partnerback at the previous year and try to look ahead. just natural because of where we are on the calendar, people are talking about apple losing some momentum. that could be important for the overall market because it's such a leader. is this something more than just a, i don't know, a backing and filling period for apple? >> i think we have to contextualize it, right? we had such a huge move from the major indices ahead of this pullback. it was more pronounced finor ape than most of the mega caps. to me we now have a short-term oversold reading for apple. it's still within the context of a long-term uptrend. there's good support right around 179, 180. so it's a bit of a proving ground for it. i'm not ready to add exposure yet, but just with a little stabilization, i would say i'd feel confident adding into weakness. that's often hard to do. people often talk about buy the dip. here's the dip, it has people a bit shaken. >> for a technician you do talk about election years. you don't need

look, some technical indicators, katie stockton, fair lead strategy founder, managing partner.hen some consolidation. are we back on track, do you think, for the s&p and what is near-term, intermediate term, how does it look? >> well, i mean, as of friday we have new all-time highs. as a technician, that's the kind of stuff we get excited about, right? we have an unconfirmed breakout, so that would be confirmed this friday. we always wait for those two weekly closes above for confirmation. assuming that happens, we can then kind of set our sights on the next measured move price objectives. we've talked about it here in the past. 6100 from the breakout to new highs is a long-term measured trajectory. which assumes the trajectory off the trend of the covid corrected low will maintain itself. it does steeem a bit aggressive with that in mind. it does dictate a bullish bias, and by the definition of new highs it means there's no resistance left on the charts. it does tend to generate additional momentum. also, sentiment tends to shift. maybe we're seeing that on the economic front
