i saw this firsthand, i went down to help out with katrina thing in september. it's weird. because you are dealing with people that lost everything and it's kind of hard to imagine that if you haven't done it yourself. basically, you know, she's looking at her curtains here, she probably hand-stitched those things. maybe they have been hanging there the last 5 or 6 years. everything in the house is wrecked, photos, keepsakes, it's a tough thing. and people deal with this kind of stress in different ways. we as disaster workers, we see it all the time. but we have a word we use, professional. we try to be professional around people that have suffered a loss like this because they don't want us to come -- you don't want to go into somebody's house and be joking and having a good time. it's unprofessional. when you are dealing with somebody who has a loss like this, just think of the word professional. that's what we try to do. this sort of body language here, she's trying to comfort here, do you think she's buying it? not with that body language. she's not really buying it. s

within a few days of hurricane katrina watching through new orleans, three activists start the common ground collective and they start providing very basic preliminary health care services for the people that remain in the city. one of these three people is a gentleman named maleek rahim. when you start about starting this with two other activists, he says very clearly that the reason he felt like he could do this and pull this off in the face of all of this catastrophe all around them, is that they have done very similar work in the black panther party. so we have to understand, you know, these two clinics operating today as distinct legacies of the black panther party's activism. >> host: alondra nelson is very distressed in the african-american community toward health care? and hatred okay to just say health care, but i'm thinking specifically the tuskegee syphilis experiments. >> guest: yes, i think it is an important question. this is the 40th anniversary this july for tuskegee. we see this trust in the public health to deter and we see these accounts in these sort of things. it

katrina rusk is live at the superior court in san jose with where things stan. >> reporter: there -- there is not an empty see the in -- empty seat in this courtroom foreclosing arguments. the district attorney is occupying one of those seats. his deputy is arguing to the jury that vigilanteism is not allowed in a -- democratic society and thus, they must convict will lynch in this assault case. lynch did take the stand stand last friday and testified strike father lindner may 10th, 2010 and hit him more than once. he also told the jury how the former priest viciously raped him and molested brother when they were 7 and 4-years-old. the prosecutor says she has proven, beyond a reasonable doubt, lynch is guilty of felony assault and felony elder abuse. those two counts that if a conviction comes back, carries up to four years in prison. lynch told the jury he did not intend on beating father lindner when he confronted him. but childhood memories of the rape flooded back when the former priest leered at him as he had prior to this sexual assault in 1975. the jury could find lynch guilty

i'm joined by katrina vanden heuvel and michael steele. michael, i'll go to you first. how does mitt romney navigate through all of this and come out with a successful conclusion? how does he fix this mess? >> there's only one successful conclusion and that is releasing the returns at this point. the obama team has been masterful in boxing mitt romney into this corner. but let me tell you, straight up. this was so avoidable, i can't even begin to put it in words, how avoidable this was. remember, i was talking to aert ro recently who said, i've covered romney when he ran for governor. this was an issue there. bain and the tax returns were an issue then. you would think that by now they would have an answer to deal with these two questions. to allow this to become the central focus of this campaign at this stage is just mind boggling to me. we should be talking about the economy, the president's record on jobs. i mean, i have to give it to the team, the obama team, you know, the jobs numbers come out for june, they suck, it's bad news, and what do they do? roll out this
