katie burn for us this morning. katie, always great to see you, of course. but of course, behind you, it just looks like a deluge of rainfall. yeah, michael. and it looks a lot darker now. i can tell you just in the last few minutes, there was a big boom of thunder. it sounded like a crack. and then all of a sudden the power went out here at our hotel and in a lot of locations right outside of where we are. so what you're looking at now is pitch black and a lot of locations, the streetlights have gone out. this as we are pretty much right on time for what we thought was going to happen for the city of orlando. as far as when we were going to see the worst impacts of the storm. you can see the palm trees there have been swaying back and forth. we've been getting pretty significant wind gusts. i'm curious how low the readings will come through, because i think from what we've seen throughout the day, some of the strongest wind gusts we've seen have been within the last 30 minutes since we've been kind of watching and waiting to see what happened. oh, look at t

katie burn, are we going to katie in orlando? let's go the katie burn. she's in orlando. katie, what is it like where you are? >> hi, martha. here in orlando, the wind is picking up at this hour. we expect conditions to continue to get worse this afternoon and this evening. but we don't expect to experience the worse of the hurricane impacts until early tomorrow morning. i can show you that the wind is becoming significant. if you look behind me, the palm trees starting to sway. this isn't the worst of it. we just heard from steve harrigan where he is over the fort myers area, that is seeing the worst of the storm at this moment. millions of people have had to evacuate that area and came here to orlando for safety. but last night, the hurricane warnings expanded to include orlando. now people are grabbing supplies today before everything boards up. >> i'm a little scared. but give our take, we'll be fine. i'm sure god will guide us through. i have most of my preparations done. i have my house secured. just last minute water. >> now, as we're awaiting the national hurricane

now i believe we have katie burn, the journalist. she's in orlando. what does it look like there, katie? >> hi, neil. we're starting to see action here in orlando. the wind is picking up. the rain is coming down. it's gusty. we're starting to see some of that wind impacting the trees nearby, the palm trees. you'll hear the wind off of my mic as well. and just to give you an idea about the scope of this storm. we're about 130 miles from where the hurricane made landfall just west of fort myers. that is how big of an impact this storm is having. all the way over to orlando we're seeing it. we won't see if worst until early tomorrow. millions of people fled the fort myers area to come seek safety here. what happened is last night the hurricane warnings expanded inland. ended up covering orlando as well. so people ended up prepping to ride out the storm here, too. the hotels are busy, down stairs people are kind of getting food, hanging out and waiting this things out. orlando actually shut down, the international airport this morning. some vacationers tha

fox weather's katie burn is in orlando. katie? >> hey there, guys. we've been tracking the storm from orlando. i can tell you we're dealing with the most significant wind gusts we've had all day long. the rain has let up a little bit where we are, but it's been off and on all day. a lot of people left the southwest florida area, came toward orlando to seek shelter, to seek a safe haven to ride the storm out, but last night the hurricane warnings expanded inland, encompassing orlando, so people have to ride out the storm here too. hotels are sold out. disney parks are closed today and tomorrow. disney resorts are actually asking guests to shelter in place. whale we're dealing with orlando, over a hundred miles away from where hurricane ian is right now, just hovering over the florida peninsula, we're still seeing conditions like this. what's interesting about being inland is we know that even when you have category one strength hurricane winds in a city, they can have catastrophic major damage. we're dealing with a category four storm today. guys? >>

we go to orlando where multi media journalist katie burn is standing by. tie orlando about on to be front and center with the storm. coming in now with reports. i have friends there, writing me at this time saying winds are picking up and it's about to hit. >> yeah, you know, we just heard from our charles watson talking about how the storm is moving northeast and, hey, that's right where we are in orlando. i can tell you conditions have been getting worse since early this afternoon. now we're starting to see those winds picking up. the rain has been consistently falling down but when you've got the mixture of those two you'll start to see debris getting tossed around on the ground, pieces of the palm trees on the roads and you'll probably hear the wind around me. what's interesting about orlando is right now there's a lot of people who came here from southwest florida evacuating that area looking for safety here in orlando but what happened, yesterday those hurricanes warnings actually expanded inland and decided to include orlando. so people hunkered down

katie. >> we have an update now on the dutch fire that is still burning in placer county right now. it's actually a new fire burning. 25 acres. and right now there is no containment. but here's the big news out of that. a live look at interstate 80 in cold facts. this is at dutch flat. actually count trans has reopened the eastbound lanes on 80 at gold run. the westbound lanes are still closed to the traffic. you see the top of the screen is the eastbound traffic a low. some vehicles now are heading a little bit westbound. but according to the chp westbound lanes are closed all the way from you. but pass down to colfax. that's quite a stretch there. crews are still trying to get a handle on the flames. and then we have a new image just into the kron. 4 news room. this shows cal doing a controlled burn to try to prevent the fire from jumping the freeway crossing over interstate 80. back in the day, a freeway was considered a firebreak that the fire wouldn't typically jump over. but nowadays, with the more intense fires or so we're getting with flames being pushed by stronger winds, m

also keeping an eye on pg any power line near location where a massive fire started burning in this year in nevada. katiehas been tracking the story. he's back in studio. there's new information from the utility given to state regulators on this, we're getting some brand new information even as they try to stomp out this wildfire right now we're talking about the mosquito fire and it's burning. this morning. it's exploded in size overnight burning about 20 miles east of auburn, along the county line with plaster and el dorado county's and now pg knee . it's involved here in a filing with state regulators. pg and e. says u s. forest service crews have placed caution tape around the base of one of its high voltage power lines and there where the fire began. but the utility says it hasn't been told why. and they haven't seen any damage or had any reports of problems with the power lines. it says they are investigating in the only submitted the report with the cpuc quote out of an abundance of caution. meanwhile, firefighters have been struggling to contain the mosquito fire, which is burning in a mountainou
