katy eustis, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> there will be extra police patrols tonight on this 4th of julyw fireworks and drought conditions make for a very dangerous mix and law enforcement is warning if you get caught with illegal fireworks you could get fined up to a thousand dollars and jail time. ktvu's azenith smith joins us live from san jose. bomb technicians could be called out tonight? >> reporter: deputies from the sheriff's office who know how to handle explosives are expected to be out tonight, not to mention san jose police have them on call as well given the drought conditions. >> reporter: all is calm in this neighborhood but last year on 4 4th of july illegal fireworks sparked this fire. >> somebody fired off a bottle rocket in the back. and it went astray. >> reporter: close to his home. his family is already bracing for another rough holiday. >> firing them last night. yeah. [ talking at the same time ] >> everywhere. >> firing an m80. >> has been getting worse over the years. >> this year san jose police department isn't taking chances especially with the dry conditions

ktvu's katy eustis talked with the participates about the inspiring and emotional 40-mile walk. >> reporterys. >> very emotional. >> reporter: 39.3 miles. >> women are amazing. look at them. amazing. >> reporter: and thousands of reasons to keep walking. >> i lost my sister to breast cancer. she was 57. and actually -- >> reporter: she vowed to participate in the avon breast cancer walk then and there. >> so i said i would do whatever i could. anything. >> reporter: super walkers still need heroes who donate. >> look at all the people who helped us. >> each person raises $1,800 to participate. >> we got to get it done. we have to kill cancer. and the only way we will do it is if everybody works together. and save women of all ages. >> hitting younger and younger women all the time. >> i am walking for the under 30 year olds. this could happen to them, it happened to me. >> reporter: this walk is the length of a marathon and while it is not a race it is competitive for many of the fundraisers. >> number two fundraiser, avon breast cancer walk, we raised $98,000 and shooting for $100,000 and

ktvu's katy eustis with what might be movement in the case. >> family is starting to arrive. we are an hour out from the vigil. the police department forwarded their investigation to the district attorney's office. exactly what that means officers would not elaborate on but it is movement in the case of the missing toddler. >> reporter: another mystery surrounding the death. her father. he committed suicide in may. we spoke with the coroner's office which is not releasing the cause of the death yet. he reported her missing a year ago today. he parked at a store at 79th and international. he left the 21-month-old girl in the car with his mother who suffers from dementia. he told police when he returned from the store she was gone. there was an extensive search of the area. at one point police released suspect information of a woman seen with a baby matching the description. investigators arrested him on suspicion of child endangerment but charges were never files. the grandparents say his death has only pushed them further from the answers they seek. >> reporter: i have a call

katy eustis, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> continuing coverage now on the fire fight in napa county. the fire is burning out of control in pope valley but firefighters do expect to make progress tonight. the fire started on tuesday and grown to 4300 acres. two homes were destroyed and 7 smaller structures and at this point the fire is still only 30% contained. some people are now being allowed to return home. >> reporter: thick black smoke road above the mountain. more than a thousand firefighters from as far away as orange county are trying to reach the flames. >> we have aircraft personnel, fire engines, everything we need to put this out. >> reporter: people were airline to return home this -- were able to return home this afternoon after officials agreement now the threat to this neighborhood -- officials agreed for now the threat to this neighbor is gone. >> the winds are in our favor. >> we put a lot of thought into this. >> reporter: because they have just one road in and out, neighbors here have planned for years for an evacuation like this and have learned ways to improve th
