so, i want to introduce my appointment today katie tang . [ applause ] . katie has lived in the district since she 1 year old. that might have been 13 years ago. [ laughter ] you will note and i'm sure it will be part of the stories we'll tell that it was the same age as carmen when she was appointed. her parents also live in the district as well and not only a resident but someone more interested in the district and representing all the issues, and graduate of lowel high school. both of my daughters are blowing kisses to me from new york as they also graduated from that fantastic school. she has a very distinction have gone to u c davis. obviously some very strong intelligence, a double major, of course it is a proper time to thank mr. and mrs. tang for that great lineage of parentage that is demonstrated there. i have no doubt that katie will fulfill these incredible obligations responsibly for the district, representing everybody. she has been literally every corner and again the residents have continued to say can we have continuity. we want to have thi

my name is dee anna keson, representing the office of supervisor katy tang. we are introducing an ordinance brought before the board last year for implementation of pedestrian level lighting for small businesses. last year the impetus for this ordinance was real toy help support our small businesses in making a small but tangible change to the vibrancy of corridors. we found that a lot of small business owners didn't know that when they had to replace an awning that was already existing on their store fronts that they had to go through a permit process and pay a fee. so, we thought that this would be a great way to really recognize small business month and allow them to make those changes to their store fronts without that fee in place. one of the things we really wanted to do is to make sure that since this is city-wide ordinance, that we let a lot of people know that this will be in place for may. and, so, we've been really trying to create an education and outreach strategy. in front of you you have a packet, a draft packet of informational materials that

i'm here on behalf of katie tang. we are introducing this ordinance to provide level -- in recognizes of small business month. this ordinance was passed last year and as was also mentioned we received 10 fee waivers and are expecting to do additional outreach this month in preparation for may to make sure that we can either in crease those fee waivers or get information regarding the need and necessity procedure around replacing awnings and signs. one to support the difference and the ordinance that we felt was very important. a lot of small businesses owners felt it was very educational that they want to replace the signs, apply for permit and pay fees. so we expect to continue that educational outreach in front of you, there is a packet that we would like to give to small businesses. these are statements that we want to go into if they want to replace awning and signs. it will be translated into three languages. english, chinese and spanish. we plan to work with other offices as well as the office of small business

so without further adieu, i would like to invite supervisor katie tang. and followed by carmen chiu. >> i just wanted to take this opportunity to thank claudine and all of the hard working volunteers to put the celebrations together. i know how hard you work, as mayor lee was talking about his experience and his daughter taking piano lessons especially with the theme this year in honoring at chiefments in the performing arts i was part of the band. and i played the nraout in middle school and high school and at that time it was very cool. and we actually got to the point where we got to perform at carnege hall. and it was a great experience and i don't know what my life would have been without having that in my background. as we are celebrating the performing arts, i want to encourage everyone to incorporate that into their lives and hope that many more generations of people will consider that a part of their childhood growing up as well. and again, i want to thank everybody and we are so lucky to be here in san francisco where we embrace the diversity an

tang. just kidding we thought that katie graduated from here a couple of years ago. good morning, everyone and welcome again and i want to thank the school district for offering their auditor um here at herbert hoover and i want to thank the office of civic engagement. they are here to be providing support and translation for those who english is not their first language. so that we can get their input as well. the community ambassadors are those in the yellow and working with them to make the streets safer and i want to thank the police and fire department personnel that are here today in addition to all of the departments and representatives. and supervisor tang, and supervisor yee are working very closely with us to make sure that the districts are heard. and of course, this is the fifth of 7 budget town halls that we have held throughout the city and i want to especially thank, supervisor mark ferrill because he has been with me on every one of these as he fulfills his role as the chair of the budget committee that he has inputs from each of the supervisors and t
