. >> nbc 10's katy zachry is live for us this morning. new information just crossing the wires from the associated press. tell us about that. >> that's right. we've been reporting throughout the morning that according to the associated press, this plane had crashed. that's according to the a.p. now they're reporting new information about its crash location, saying it crashed off the greek island of crete. we are working right now to independently confirm that. egyptair flight 804 was headed from paris to cairo when it vanished from radar around 2:30 a.m. egypt time. that's 8:45 p.m. here on the east coast. 66 passengers and crew members were on board that plane. it was an airbus 320. no americans are reported to have been on that flight. egyptian authorities say search operations are right now under way over the mediterranean sea. aviation experts say two main theories are being considered. one, that a catastrophic breakup took place at altitude, which they're saying is highly unlikely, especially for this kind of reliable aircraft. the s

that's where nbc 10's katy zachry is. katie, police gave you new information about an hour ago.ey say the second shooting and the deadly one started as a traffic stop? >> that's right. this deadly sequence of events transpired from an attempted traffic stop. i say attempted traffic stop because police tell us the driver of this maroon mini van, which you can see has a door open and and door bag deployed. they say the driver of this mini van did not stop when they told him to pull over and instead, tried to run officers over with this vehicle. around 1:00 a.m., they tried to get the driver of mini van to stop and pull over. he refused and used his car to try and hit police. his car crashed a little ways from the intersection at lancaster and overbrook avenue. they did drive the injured man to presbyterian hospital but he had already died. earlier, different police officers in philadelphia were shot at by a man with a gun in grays ferry. in southwest part of philadelphia. that shooting happened behind a row of homes. police tell us officers who were patrolling the area heard gunsh

nbc 10's katy zachry is live on the scene. katy, what have you been able to learn? >> the most interesting thing about this, tracy, is the family tells me, the men midway through the ordeal asked each other, do we have the right house? the family insists they did not have the right house. they say they were wrongly targeted, as we push into the home where this happened overnight. the family tells me they've lived at this the home for 40 years. they say nothing has ever happened to them. they felt incrediblyç safe on this block in the northeast section of philadelphia because so many people who live here are police officers. investigators say around 1:15 this morning, three men wearing masks and gloves and at least one showing a gun broke into this home on the 14,000 block of this street, tied up the couple in their 60s who was living here, as well as their adult son, all three people were sleeping inside. the group demanded to know where the money was, they kept repeating, where is the money? the family insisted they didn't have any. >> it's actually one of the qui

katy zachry is live in center city. aty, 6:00 hour, this is the time of day when more cars are on the road. how's it looking there for you? >> 0 a wednesday morning it's looking pretty good so far. i'm not sure what the reason is for that. but as traffic picks up later this morning, we will see slow going around the detours here around logan square and the ben franklin parkway. the new traffic patterns that are in place in this area, it's all part of what's happening along the vine street expressway. overnight, we got a close-up look at the progress. the work end around 5:00 this morning. it will restart again tonight at 11:00 p.m. those six hours overnight. it's the only time legally the construction crew can close the road. this kind of closure will take place next week and throughout the year, i'm toll. this project will not be complete until 2019. in the end, there will be half a dozen new bridges crossing the vine street expressway. the current ones date back to the 1950s. >> it was a type of construction method tha

nbc 10's katy zachry is live at police headquarters in center city., police tell you the family says they know who did this, right? >> they told police who they saw behind that gun and also throw that molotov cocktail on to the porch. for the last few hours, police have been in the overbrook section of philadelphia looking for the shooter. they have not found him yet. the family told investigators he's part of an ongoing feud with them. take a look at this video. police say it all started over a fire that engulfed a plastic porch chair. when the family at this home in the overbrook section of philadelphia went outside to investigate, they were met by a 19-year-old with a gun. police say the family raced back inside, trying to shut the front door on the shooter but he shot several times through the door, hitting a 19-year-old man inside. investigators believe the shooter is responsible for setting that fire. >> more than likely the incendiary device was thrown on the front porch, caused the fire and the victim then came out to investigate. that's when

katy zachry watching your first alert traffic. katy?atching slow going, bill, on the schuylkill expressway westbound between route 1 and the exit for the blue route. this is what you're dealing with. a lot of brakelights, a lot of delays. it will take you about 11 minutes but i am seeing that creep up every few minutes, average speeds for drivers here on this stretch with all those brake lights is in the low 40s. eastbound looking good. even though you probably have a nine-minute drive as you make your way from route 1 to the vine street expressway. eastbound isn't too bad. we touched on 76. 95, things are slowing up as you make your way southbound. average speeds in the upper 30s for those drivers. that stretch will take you 23 minutes. fingers crossed. the blue route is looking pretty good. i anticipate things will be stacked in the blue route. it's a 16-minute drive as you make your way southbound between the schuylkill expressway and 95. marlton pike, a short stretch is closed. that's closed between haddonfield road and cooper landi

katy zachry is live at the scene with more. katy, tell us what police are telling you what happened. >> according to witnesses who were shocked by what they saw when the driver hit the bus stop and the man standing underneath, his car came to a stop, he got out of the car, went over to the victim, actually looked over him, and then ran away. now look at this video -- look at this damage out here at the scene. just how startling it is. the point of impact was at the intersection of cottman and bustleton avenues. the bus stop and the victim were thrown 100 feet, according to police. you can see where that landed well away from the intersection. the car that hit them is still in the intersection, on scene. look at all of this front and side damage. police believe the driver was injured, too. here's video we got from the scene not long after this happened. police say the man driving this 2003 lexus sedan crossed over cottman avenue after midnight when he veered on to the sidewalk, slammed into a septa bus canopy throwing the canopy

nbc 10's katy zachry is live at the scene.what are police telling you about what happened. >> it was a harrowing ordeal or this family of three. they live on the 14,000 block of farad e-street. we just arrived to the scene. earlier we had a photographer who was here while investigators were here. let's show you the video from the height of when this happened. it happened around 1:15 this morning. police say three people were sleeping inside this home, a couple in their 60s and their adult son. everyone was in their own bedrooms, in their beds enthey were all awoken by three men, we're told, who were masked, wearing gloves and who tied up the three people in this house and demanded money. one of the interesting th ining they insisted we don't have money. we have money in our wallets, cash in our wallets, but other than that we don't store or how's a house or money in our home. the group ransacked the house, all three floors. interestingly, police say, they didn't take electronic oz are valuables. they did take an undisclosed am

nbc 10's katy zachry is live on the scene this morning with new information. katy? >> reporter: yes, tracy and vai, a key piece of evidence that police are looking into, the couple says one of the perpetrators said to them during this whole ordeal, do we have the wrong house? the family i spoke to not long ago, they live just up the hill here. they've lived at this home for 40 years an they say nothing unsafe has ever happened to them because they felt incredibly safe living on this block with so many of their neighbors being police officers. investigators here at the scene say around 1:15 this morning, three men with masks and gloves and at least one showing a gun, broke into the home on this street, tied up a couple in their 60s and adult son who were all sleeping inside. the masked men demanded to know where the money was. but the family insisted they didn't have any. >> the family was saying they don't have any money in the house. that's when the three perpetrators started to ransack the entire house, pulling out drawers and overturning drawers and some furnitur

nbc 10's katy zachry is live in mt. laurel to explain how it happened. katy?>>> this is such a great story. it's about an eighth grader here at harrington middle school who says she's always been passionate about helping others. and now she caught the attention of the national tv network in a big way. well, that girl is mt. laurel 8th grader gabrielle turgeon. she recently wrote an essay for the home shopping network about family friend henry norton, an 8-year-old boy who suffers from usher syndrome. it's a rare genetic disorder that leaves people deaf and ballooned. as part of a fund-raiser put on by the network and gabrielle won. now $1,000 will be spend on henry and five others like him to attend a summer camp with their interpreters at no cost to the families. gabrielle will be there, too, as a counselor in training. >> what are some of the things you do at the camp? >> i swim, play a little bit. >> it's amazing because throughout the summer, i could see them all. and it makes me especially beam and proud. >> and henry norton is the son of phil norton, nbc

katy zachry live in wilmington to explain. katy? >> reporter: tracy, that's right. tragedy struck twice here for students at howard high school of technology. behind me, yesterday a ninth grade boy was killed during after-school hours just a few blocks away from where we're standing. here's cell phone video of police responding to the scene. this was taken from a nearby state office building. the scene is in downtown wilmington. we've learned a ninth grade boy was shot in the head on the 900 block of clifford brown walkway. he attended howard high school of technology. the same school you'll remember where a 16-year-old girl was killed in a school bathroom fight last month. almost exactly a month to the day that this happened. now, from the principal's statement on the school website, we've learned that the student was taken to christiana high school after the shooting where he later died. counselors will be at the school to speak with students who will no doubt be affected by this latest tragedy, especially after just weeks ago they were struck with a student being

katy zachry is live outside police headquarters this morning.police tell us the gunman started a fire before he started shooting, right? >> reporter: tracy, that's right. investigators believe the fire was used as a way to get the victim's family out of the home and clear into the path of the shooter. police say it's this plastic porch chair that was set on fire. when the family after this home on lebanon avenue in the overbrook section of philadelphia went outside to investigate the fire, they were met by a 19-year-old with a gun. police say the family raced back inside, trying to shut the front door on the shooter but he got several shots through the door, hitting a 19-year-old man on the other side who was in his living room. investigators believe the shooter is responsible for setting the porch fire, which the fire marshal has already determined is arson. >> they said it was some sort of incendiary device that was thrown on the porch that caused this chair to catch on fire. we believe that was to get the attention of the occupants of the pro

nbc 10's katy zachry is live in center city this morning. katy, what are crews doing right now? >> tracy, this is a massive project. i can tell you right now, they are hard at work, because they have a very short window, these nights when the vine street expressway is actually closed. they can only close itç legall between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. till then, well, this project i should tell you is not slated to be complete until 2019. until then, you can expect more of what you see here, closures of the expressway and detours above it. trust me, there's a big payoff. overnight we got a firsthand look at the work being done to improve travel and safety for the tens of thousands of people who use the vine street expressway and the city streets above it. the contractor is setting eight new beams in place for brand new bridges that will cross over the vine. the old bridges date back to the 1950s and are structurally outdated. >> it was a type of construction method that was popular at that period of time, but now it's outdated. the new bridges will certainly provide decades of safe
