. >> nbc10's katy zachry is live at the scene to fill us in on what happened here. katy. >> reporter: rosemary and vai, you can imagine some incorrectly scary moments for the people who live inside this home. after earlier this morning, a car slammed through the property fence and came to a stop only after it slammed into the side of their house. police tell me right now, they are still looking for the driver. or that person, i should say, didn't just leave the scene of a crash but left an injured person who was in that car. this is a dark-colored sedan that police say they tried to pull over in penns grove overnight. but the driver would not stop. and instead, led police on a pursuit that ended only when the car came crashing into the side of this house on east lion street. it severed a water line. but the company who lives inside, in their 70s, they are okay. investigators tell us five people were inside the vehicle and one got pretty badly injured after she hit her head on the windshield in that crash. four people that remained on the scene, we're told they are co

nbc10's katy zachry joins us on temple's campus. the school is looking for new voices in this fight. tell us more. >> reporter: that's right. in the past, traditionally men have taken part in this walk. this year it's different. the school is including women and members of the gay and transgender communities. take a look. here's what those walkers will be wearing as they make their way through temple's campus and parts of north philadelphia today. this year's walk to you replaces the annual walk a mile in her shoes where only men took part and many would wear red high heels. it was a symbol of support for victims of sexual assault who were urgely women. the oregon -- were usually women. the organizers says because it's far reaching they wanted to include members of every community. for some it's personal. >> last year we had individuals were there saying like, you know, i could have been impacted if someone didn't step up for me. i think for a lot of people it can be personal. >> reporter: the walk here begins at noon. registration

nbc 10 katy zachry live on scene. what are you learning about this fire. >>> tracey, we are able to move closer to the apartment building that burned overnight. take a look behind me on the ground some of the burned debris that firefighters pulled from the scene and as we pan up, you're able to see that second floor window. that apartment where the fire started. i did just talk to the property owner who was out here. he tells me he is hearing reports that people inside this apartment building were using matches in the overnight hours and that's what may have sparked the fire. we're still trying to confirm that with the philadelphia fire marshals officer. let's go to a picture that one of the first responding firefighters took when they pulled up to the scene. see flames leaping from the building. firefighters were able to get the fire under control, but in all of craziness here. eight families forced out into the bitter cold. frigid temperatures. some of those families have small children. the good news is that seven

nbc10's katy zachry is live in penns grove. tell us about the case, katy. >> reporter: rosemary, we just arrived a few minutes ago. take a look at the scene behind me. if you go in, you can see right below the step of the corner of the house in penns grove, there's significant damage. that's because a car crashed into this home earlier this morning. take a look at this video, they pulled over the car in penns grove several hours ago. they tried to pull over, however. police say the driver did not stop, continued on and didn't to a stop until the car came to a crash on this house. inside this home, two people, a man and woman married in their 70s. the woman actually is recovering from recent back surgery. fortunately, they were not in the location of the house where this car hit. they were in another place. so they are badly shaken and clearly very upset about the state of their health. here's what police say when they pulled up to that car that crashed into the house. they believe there were five people inside the car. when they

nbc10's katy zachry is following developments. tell us the latest. >> reporter: i did just check in with southwest detectives. they have not found the shooter yet but do have strong leads. that injured father, he was shot not once but twice. he is right now at presbyterian hospital where doctors say he should survive. this is video from the scene around 2:00 this morning along market street near 62nd. philadelphia police say their shooting victim, a 37-year-old father, confronted several men who earlier in the evening robbed his son of about $40. police say the dad was not armed, but at least one of the men he confronted was. that man allegedly fired nine rounds hitting the dad twice in the face. fortunately police were nearby patrolling. as soon as they heard gunfire, they rushed to the scene and found the injured man. they drove him to presbyterian hospital. their police cameras captured video of the suspect running from the scene. that video coupled with witness statements they've been taking throughout the morning say that's g

katy zachry live on scene. this is a wild story. walk us through this. >>> tracey, a couple of things get your attention upon first hearing this story. the first one, the fact four people were shot in a public place. happened outside 7165 germantown avenue. the second thing that gets your attention is the fact it happened on a very popular stretch of germantown avenue. an area that surrounded by well known and frequented businesses, bars, restaurants, shopping. you can see a bullet hole in one of the windows of 7165 germantown avenue. that's because there was a shooting thshoot ing that occurred out here around 2:00 a.m. arnold 2:00 a.m., a live music venue, this is live music venue, live music act had just wrapped up. the establishment was closing. everyone inside was being forced outside. well, apparently there was an argument that started inside this bar restaurant. it spilled outside. things escalated here on the sidewalk and around the street and that's when someone, police say, pulled out a gun and fired at least tight times.

katy zachry from the digital operations center. what did the attorney say? >> reporter: the attorney said he wanted off the case because he wasn't going to get paid. the judge was stern saying he would not postpone the case while williams looks for a lawyer. he told the judge he has another attorney lined up. we'll see if he was able to secure one. he is accused of accepti ining than $100,000 for cash, trips, and gifts. as d.a. he makes $175,000 a year but said a costly divorce left him with financial problems. philadelphia paid for his lawyer for nearly two years as the fbi investigated him. that stopped when williams was indicted on extortion and corruption charges. williams pleaded not guilty and remains philadelphia d.a. despite calls from as far high up as the mayor's office to resign. i did reach out to a spokesperson for the district attorney's office looking for a comment. so far i've not heard anything back. reporting live, nbc10 news. >>> 5:45. 40 degrees. today a co-defendant in the grace packer murder case has a court appearance. jacob sullivan f

katy zachry live for us. read for morning rush hour. >>> vai and rosemary. can't deny the bridge has reopened. clearly hear the sound of trucks and cars going over it. for the last six plus weeks no sound like that because this bridge was under some serious repairs. now late last night crews finished the final repairs ahead of a planned april reopening, but you know the fact they opened four weeks or so early, that is the delight of tens the of thousands of commuters this morning. we learn that the repair crew worked around the clock literally. worked 7 days a week here on the delaware river turnpike bridge to reopen it weeks earlier than they originally thought. a crack was found back in january in westbound lane. from that point on, the bridge was off limits to over 40,000 drivers who used it day will toy get back and forth from pennsylvania and new jersey. sky force 10 last night was over it as the first of tv drivers made their way across the bridge. to ensure the safety of the bridge after the repairs, crews ran a test by having trucks carrying 40 tons

nbc 10 katy zachry live on the scene. what can you tell us at this point. >> reporter: we're hearing from those two separate sources that you just mentioned that the two victims in this case are from the same family, but beyond that, investigator are not offering any details. take a look at the scene behind me. tell you what we do know at this point. maple shade police and investigator from the prosecutors office have been on scene since around 9:00. they are focused on a first flow apartment in the fox meadow complex. here's seen from earlier. crime scene unit parked in front of apartment in question for several hours. investigator, including members of the chaplains office going in and out of that apartment. we have seen police searching nearby dumpster as well. only information we're getting from the burlington county prosecutors office, the investigating agency, they are on the scene of a death investigation. beyond that waiting for more details. reached out to them numerous times this morning. at last check told they

i'm katy zachry. it is almost 5:00 on the dot. >> and i'm vai sikahema.peratures are warming up today. that could lead to a new danger. 31 degrees right now. ice has been falling from high rises in center city. a viewer sent this picture of ice chunks coming down off the ritz carlton. let's get to meteorologist bill henley. >> part of what was driving that ice yesterday was wr the gusty winds. we have an improving situation, winds will be lighter today. it's cold this morning but not as cold as yesterday. lehigh valley has dropped to 22 degrees with a southwesterly wind at 7 miles an hour. 23 at 7:00. excuse me, being and 11:00, 31 degrees. nice warm-up with lots of sunshine. philadelphia, the northwest wind right now is at just 7 miles an hour. we saw gusts beyond 30 miles an hour yesterday, much lighter winds today. below 10 miles an hour at 8:00 and just an 11-mile-an-hour wind at 11:00 this morning. look at the temperatures warming to 35 degrees. that ice blowing off buildings is less likely today. melting? that is more likely. we saw some yesterday.
