katy zachry with more. the councilman describing what happened, right? >> reporter: he described it for us in detail. amazingly, he stayed calm throughout the entire ordeal despite being stabbed. we first met up with councilman david oh on the doorstep of his west philadelphia home yesterday after he was discharged from the hospital. that's where earlier his wife and two of his four children had met him after a successful surgery. he had been stabbed in the diaphragm and cut on his arm trying to shield his face and neck from the attacker's swing late thursday. he says he had just arrived home from a long day at work and was unpacking his car in front of his house when a man walked up and demanded his keys and wallet. >> he was lunging and swinging and basically saying i want everything, everything. give me everything. at one point he lunged and swung, you know, at my face and my neck. i had to elevate my hands in defense, and i got cut on my forearm. >> there's another twist to the story. we found out yesterday after talking to him that councilman oh sai

katy zachry is live with more. what can you tell us? >> reporter: the search and recovery ended last night. it will resume later this morning. that recovery mission. right now on the beach, an atlantic city police officer in the area where crews were searching last night. the missing teenagers are not related. at this hour, you have two families who are living this fear. the mayor of atlantic city tells us the currents were so strong last night at the time that the two went missing. family members stood on the beach distraught. some unable to stand as coast guard and beach patrols searched the water and from a helicopter above. the teenagers were last seen in the water off of martin luther king beach. it was around 6:30 last night. and within minutes of them being reported, rescuers were in the water. those rescuers never caught sight of them. the search lasted until 10:30 last night after hours of looking with no sign of the pair. things did shift to a recovery effort which is set to resume this morning. now coming up in the next half

nbc10's katy zachry is live at police headquarters in center city. tell us more. >> reporter: the philadelphia police commissioner tells us he is concerned about this shooting. he describes it as a violent encounter, saying it's one that gives him pause. take a look at the vessels video. it shows the 29-year-old man in the hunting park section of philadelphia getting shot. you see him running around the corner of a building, then the tape freezes. at that point, he was shot to the ground, and police come to his side. philadelphia police commissioner richard ross says this started with an officer driving witnesses from another crime to special victims unit. that officer noticed a man on a dirt bike driving erratically. he stopped the man to tell him to stop driving like that. the man started to walk away allegedly. so the officer apparently put a hand on his waist. he felt a gun. he told the man not to pull the gun. witnesses in the back of the car say the man pulled the gun, and then the officer shot him. >> being candid, video footage that shows thi

reporting live, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. >>> breaking overnight, a woman is in critical condition afterher and try ied to put her in a trash bag. this unfolded last night across from frankfurt hospital. that's where pamela osbourne is live this morning. tell us how this unfolded. >> reporter: that's right. so far police have identified no motive in the attack. we talked to them and we're learning a little bit more about that victim. she's 29 years old. she's in critical condition right now. she was beaten so badly that police say she was barely recognizable. this is where she was attacked. as you said, it was the hospital employees who witnessed the attack from across the street. it happened at 10:30 last night and employees saw a man beating a woman here on her head and in her face. they yelled out to try to stop the attack, but the suspect did not stop. he beat the woman unconscious and that's when police say he emptied a trash bag and tried to stuff the victims who police say is small in stature into that bag. the workers kept yelling and is when the attack came to an end. >> it was

nbc 10 katy zachry joins us live at federal courthouse. > >> reporter: as you said, opening statementsin in just a matter of hours. jury selection in this case took only a day. it's mostly female jury. that's philadelphia district attorney seth williams as he confidently walked into federal court monday. attorneys said they were feeling good. williams is facing federal bribery, extortion and fraud charges. accused of taking gifts from business associates in the form of vacation, money, car and other luxurile items in exchange for favors. the 50-year-old has denied the charges. in court lawyers for both sides asked potential jurors if they know anything about this case or know any potential witnesses that may be called. which may include a former district attorney for philadelphia. someone who ran for da this election cycle, police commissioner, and federal agents. >> what matters is that you don't want to get people that have already prejudged the case. that have read about it in the newspaper. that have watched it on television and already have a decision made because jurors have to c
