maui, oahu, over towards kauai. everybody already getting in on some of it. you can see the center of the storm. the center of the storm likely won't cross landfall. i say likely. we can't fully rule it out.y because of the trajectory this storm has taken, it's going to be impacting hawaii for a long time. came to the south of it, made this northerly turn and it's going to make a west turn likely before moving across parts of the island, at least the center of it. that means we have a long time, it's a long duration storm and because it's longer duration, with the rain, rainfall totals will pile up as will the flooding. down to a category 3. the center of the storm doesn't have as strong winds as it did before. we expected that to happen.'t the farther north it moves, it's going to break apart a little bit. take a look at this. friday morning, saturday morning. somewhere here past around oahu by sunday morning. likely pass the island chain by sunday. two and a half more days of rain that we have to deal with. these are models we look at. notice all of them mo

to kauai, winds at 22. the latest on hurricane lane, a cat girl three, packing winds of 120 miles per hour. the change in the overall track is going to be the key with the forecast. here is what the forecast models think. each of these lines represents a forecast model. still a bit of uncertainty when this turn will happen. this is what the hurricane center is going with, but it could happen anywhere. fit bumped up a little bit, that would have more of an impact on the coast of tease --lands. so take a look at -- islands. this will close enough to produce seer areious rainfall. we could be talking about amounts around 10 to 20 inches, maybe 25 to 30 inches for the hills. the east side of the big island no longer under that hurricane warning, but all of the areas in red, that's a hurricane warning, and so far those rainfall totals are really adding up on the big island. storm totals so far. a few spots over 16 inches of rain. compare that just 1.3 on the other side of the island. so keel continue to keep an

that has been downgraded to tropical storm warnings for the big island as over cords kauai.ee winds get worse this afternoon and this evening across maui and primarily oahu. take a look at this. this is what will happen. about the next, say, another 10 hours, it will slowly pull to the north. it makes a sharp left fun. once it does that it quickly getting away from at least the big island. that said, still plenty more rain. wind will not be a big problem. we'll not see direct landfall. not worst of the storm surge or the winds. look at this, additional rainfall yet to fall from the storm. you see that on the east side of the big island. maybe up to a foot of rain over the next couple days, same goes for maui. the western side where you have more population in both of those islands. oahu, you see maybe three to five inches of rain or so, as we move forward tonight into tomorrow. as far as the wind, that yellow, that is tropical storm force winds. this moves through time. see that around maui and oahu. the hurricane force winds will not make any way to the island other than hi

bands kind of blanketing the island chain now with the exception of approaching the south shore of kauai but widespread rainfall intense rainfall across especially the big island. take a look at this number as we come in closer one of the higher amounts we have seen. in fact, these are from yesterday just showing you the amounts from yesterday but one observation 31 inches of rain outside of hilo the storm total with hurricane lane. right now a category 2. this is no longer considered a major hurricane of 3 or above. category 2 system with winds of 105 miles an hour moving to the north at about 5 miles per hour. current position about 150 miles south of honolulu and there is the track right now. in fact, here's the potential track over the next few days. these are all the different forecast models and the challenge every forecast model is trying to deal with is when lane will make this turn to the west. that will happen, but the timing is uncertain. that could have a big impact on the effects of lane on the island chain, especially possibly watching out for maui and oahu. so here's the l

then we see less of a chance around oahu and kauai. there is still going to be a lot of runoff and minor flooding there too. so from today all the way through saturday evening you need to keep an eye on the hawaiian islands and be careful. >> all right. good morning, mike. we did have a traffic alert. i just got good news in. so not one but two crashes for the bay bridge drive. we're looking at the incline right now. folks heading into the island tunnel. this was total stand still just a few minutes ago. we got the all clear. sig alert, multicar crash, actually, two multicar crashes were blocking the three left lanes and then headed to the two left lanes and now all lanes are back open. the sig alert is canceled. a lot happened in the last ten minutes. speeds are starting to pick up. i want to show you this on the traffic maps too. we definitely have a solid line of red from the toll plaza to treasure island where that crash just cleared. and, yes, we're slowly starting to increase. i want to double check on drive times too. this just

then makes the left-hand turn overnight into saturday and weakens down to a 1 as it slides south of kauailood in april. ground saturated there, more rain means more flooding and that's going to the biggest issue with this storm. we've seen the flooding on the big island, but it's going to flood the other islands also and the winds are going to be much elevations. trees coming down and power outages are a big issue. near the coast, you can see wave heights up to 30 feet and the storm surge that will be about 4 to 6 degrees higher than average which means we'll have flooding along the coast and beach erosion. notice the fastest of the winds as the strongest of the waves roll in, the fastest of the winds come in also. that is going to weaken things and make them damaged and susceptible to falling apart and creating chaos during the overnight hours into tomorrow morning. we're looking at san mateo bridge there. it's pretty cloudy, a little drizzle as you head near the coast for your commute. here's alexis to tell us more about what to expect when you head out. >> overall we've been friday lig

kauai has got a huge presence in terms of research and training. hawaii is a very critical area for the military. it is where training curse and it is a stop-over point as ships head out to the pacific fleet. i'm sure everybody blows the guam is. i want to give you a epresentation. that is the marinas islands and guam. you can see a little dot of hawaii and then you see the bigger map with china. that is a very strategicically important area of the world. the ninth circuit. that is us. they are very important. guam. doesn't have a large concentration of ships. we have a couple of submarines and some military ships that support the fleet. but it is a very critical spot for the pacific fleet. from my experience when i was in active duty years ago, transit in the pacific ocean going out to persian gulf, we had engineering issues. i spent two weeks in guam. it had the full capacity to do everything it needed to do to prepare the ship. guam was a very critical base. it has an air force base as well. japan is not in the ninth circuit but when you talk ab
