ross gerber joins us, president and ceo of gerber kawasaki. happy new year, ross.d to see you as always. >> happy new year. good to see you too. >> that was a pretty glowing article in the "times." they maintain almost nothing can stop adamson right now. do you agree with that? >> i agree 100%. amazon is just a gorilla of the retail industry. and with their other business aws growing so fast it really adds a second, you know, really rapidly growing business to ams ons stab amazon's stable. i really don't see anybody coming close to taking share from them right now. >> as a matter of fact, they challenged with their prime day, for instance, which they put in in july, which is traditionally kind of a soft spot for the retailers. they almost forced the walmarts of the world to step up to the plate with them, right? >> yeah. they're basically taking everybody's lunch who isn't moving forward with their technology. so like home depot, for example, has made some strides with their online. a place like ulta salons has a great online. and they have these little niches. but

ross gerber of gerber kawasaki.t do you think of the price action continuing to really surprise people with 20 minutes left before the closing bell rings? >> demonstrates the futility of trying to predict the market in the short run. the problem with predicting the future is nobody can do it. so you have to be focused on the next 100%, and historically, the next 100% in the market is always up. so i work with mainstream investors, you should buy when prices are low, we know they're low relative to where they've been. sell your fixed income. rebalance portfolio. settle on your hands and stay focused on the next five years, not five minutes. it's very hard to do, but it's critical. liz: i always like to talk to ross gerber because he's far from new york, he tends to have a situation where he looks at things differently. how do you feel about what you're seeing and are you picking up winners that look a lot cheaper, ross? >> we like the same companies we liked 6 months ago and we are picking them up cheaper. this is a

christine short and ross gerber, the bull from gerber kawasaki. >>> turning to shares of ibm now a little lower despite beating earnings estimates. in a cnbc exclusive we are joined by ibm's cfo martin schroeder. good to see you again. let's just start with the story for ibm at the moment and it appears to be still one where you're trying to grow the new parts of the business while shrinking the old parts. would you say that the fourth quarter was a step forward in that process? >> good afternoon, kelly, thanks for the opportunity. boy, we're pleased with the progress in the transformation of ibm. when we look at the full year, for instance, our focus has been on growing our strategic imperatives which for the full year we are $29 billion in total growing 27% for the year on a very substantial base and now represent 35% of ibm. so very good progress in the areas we've been focusing on for the year we also had good margin growth again, part of our model and we had good cash flow and we were able to return three quarts -- three-quarters of that to our shareholders and keep our risk research
