nina, some vulnerable senators like mary landrieu, kay hagan, talking about legislation that they promise will fix obamacare once and for all. what are the chances of selling that to their voters in their respective states. >> what we're seeing jon, the systemic attempts to take most poisonous aspects of obamacare off the table. the white house saying more people can keep their policies. they're avoiding a mass cancellation of policies right best election. we're seeing putting off mandate for businesses and small businesses. but now the candidates themselves are tackling it. so we have six senators coming out, probably today, with legislation that would, for example, address the concern about the premium increases under obamacare, by offering a lower-cost plan, a plan they would call the copper plan, which is come behind the gold plan and silver plan and bronze plan. jon: if you don't like your bronze, silver or gold, jamie, you potentially have a copper plan you could buy i guess would be cheaper. is that the idea? >> yeah, that's the idea because of the high premiums that consumers are

facing very tough races, mark begich in alaska, mark pryor in arkansas, mary landrieu in louisiana, kay hagan in north carolina, an open seat in michigan and to a lesser extent another one in iowa. but none of the democrats are goners. democratic incumbents. but they are facing extremely difficult races. the conventional wisdom is that mark pryor from arkansas is toast. i wouldn't say toast, but you know when you put a piece of white bread in the toaster oven and it starts having a little bit of that beige look -- [laughter] so it's not toast, but it's kind of pretoast. [laughter] and so, anyway, when you kind of go through the numbers, you say, wow, republicans probably ought to get the six. and then you say, wait, wait, they've got two that they have to defend, an open seat in georgia which depends on whether republicans nominate a, what i call a normal chromosomal alignment republican -- [laughter] or whether they nominate my wife is trying to get me to stop using the termback coe, so i'm going with exotic and potentially problematic. if you're working for kay hagan or mary landrieu or mark pryor, what lesson do you take away from thiswe have to figure out a way to motivate our base voters in mid-term elections. joe keeps referring to this as a swing district, but in all the polling it was plus 10, plus 11, plus 13 republican. >> barack obama won there in 2008 and 2012. he won by 5, 6, 7 points on average. >> i agree, joe. if it were a presidential year, this would be a swing district. it's not a swing district. how do you get the voters who come out in presidential years to come out in these mid-term elections? we didn't do it in 2010. if we don't do it in 2014, it's going to be a very difficult year. that's where we have to focus. that's the lesson i take away from this. on the baim issue, i think jeremy peters had it right. independent voters by 25 points or more supported alex sink's position on mending it and not ending it. i think the notion that democrats can just walk away from that position is -- that never, ever works. so we're going to have to fight it out on that issue. but the real challenge is how do w
