i'm joe kernen along with andrew ross sorkin and kayla tausche. and kayla, i think the ford's out.to phil. >> a lot of earnings. colgate out as well. first let's talk about ford. phil lebeau joins us now with those results. >> kayla, this is a miss and what i would call a soft warning from ford. we'll explain that soft warning in a bit. earnings coming in below expectations earning 52 cents a share. they were expecting 60 cents a share. that's a pretext profit of $3 billion. revenue in line with what was expected. the total margin, the analysts were expecting ford to have a total operating margin of 8.2%. it came in at 7.7%. what was the problem in the second quarter for ford? look at the incentives in north america. it did make money in europe. it also reported a slight loss the first one in a long time in china. a loss of $8 million. and then when you look at that soft warning, this is what we're going to talk about here in just a little bit. ford saying its full year earnings estimate or its guidance prior to here is now at risk. they're not changing it. they're simply saying it

so kayla, are we expecting to see signs of turn around yet on american express?ey certainly have a turn around under way, bill. second quarter for american express is supposed to post $8.4 billion in revenue and from that $1.95 per share. that per share number would be at 37% increase from a year ago. but it does include an approximately $1 billion gain from the sale of the costco portfolio as well as cost cuts that company put in place several months ago. costco is the big event that transpired in the second quarter. remember that portfolio moved from american express after 16 years it a new partnership with visa and citigroup. so the question is, how many of the costco card holders was amex able to sign up for new amex cards. the ability of the company to do that is what will fuel future earnings growth. then will they be able to reiterate guidance for the year? the street's expecting earnings between 5.40 to 5.70 is what the company expect and expenses and how much are they able to do in cost cutting? what does the second half of the year look like and will th

kayla. >> certainly the market has been hitting new highs by the financials have been left behind.ghly about 20% below their 52 week highs so the high set in just the last year. we did get a good reading for the banks when j.p. morgan reported yesterday. our betting that city group and wells fargo could see some of the bright spots that j.p. morgan did. first quarter was largely sdointing they expected profits to be growing. the bank came out and said maybe it wouldn't hit certain targets that it had set for itself over the course of the year on the revenue front we're expecting city group to match $17.7 billion in revenue. they do have a robust trading business, it could be flat to slightly up on the revenue front based on the activity he had seen at that point. based on j.p. morgan result maybe there could be a brexit bump. all the volatility and trading could have helped them. on the down side, city is the most global of all the banks. for wells fargo, wells fargo is the most interest rate sensitive. deutsche bank says watch out for that because its margins have been hit in rece

. >> hi, kayla. that's right.e got here in philadelphia is a cyberattack that's royaling american politics within the past few minutes. the fbi has announced it has launched it's own investigation into the cyberattack at the democratic national committee to find out who stole the e-mails and who released them. this morning i have been talking to cyber security experts and people familiar with the matter that are convinced that russian intelligence is behind the cyberattack and convinced that there's other e-mails stolen that have not been released yet including a previously announced hack of the clinton foundation. we haven't seen that much material released publicly yet. all of this leading to an embarrassing release of e-mail documents that seem to show that the democratic national committee itself was backing hillary clinton and not bernie sanders. that has supporters here very, very upset and it all lead to this moment earlier today with the chairman of the dnc that announced yesterday she will be re-signing s
