here's kayna whitworth. >> reporter: tonight, texas authorities charging a homeless 17-year-old the murder of ut freshman haruka weiser. his name, meechaiel criner. after police released this video of a man walking a woman's bike around the university of texas, the fire department and an eyewitness recognized him as having set a fire in an abandoned building on monday. the police were called and took him to a youth homeless shelter that night. do you think he was trying to destroy evidence? >> reporter: the following morning, wieser's body was discovered in a creek on campus. police tonight saying criner was carrying weiser's bag in the video and say he was in possession of many of her belongings. police also confirming criner was once the subject of an article in a high school paper, "the voice of hope." he spoke about overcoming a troubled and abusive childhood. the last line, "what i want to leave behind is my name. i want them to know who meechael criner is." a name now synonymous with tragedy and death. but tonight haruka weiser's beautiful life will be remembered during a dance perfo
