retail sales are up but there are concerns in silicone valley. >> joining us is kcbs radio financial reporter jason brooks. good morning. >> good morning. and the heat continues to ratchet higher on silicone valley when it comes to antitrust concerns. the house judiciary committee is requesting documents from apple, amazon, facebook and google relating toke he cantive ehe-mails regarding competition. this is on top of the justice department and federal trade commission looking into the four companies. and in the past week, we have had state ags launch two separate antitrust probes into facebook and google. retail sales were up about ahalf percent in august slightlyweaker than july. americans bought more cars and trucks. that led the overall gain. hement health and beauty care stores did well. online shopping is big. department store chains struggled once again. also electronics and appliance sales were down last month. but overall, the numbers pretty decent. stock market this morning opening up in mixed territory. it's been a pretty good week for the market. dow and s&p not that far

. >> joining us now is kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks. good morning. >> good morning.uster jobs report for august. the labor department reporting a gain of 130,000 jobs in the month. that is about 20,000 below wall street's expectations. an when you factor in strong federal government hiring for the 2020 census, the private addition of 96,000 jobs was the weakest since february. now, there were some positives. wage growth up 3.2% from a year earlier. that was a bit stronger than expected. the labor force participation rate was at its strongest level in about a year and a half. the unemployment rate remaining steady at 3.7%. the report likely in the federal reserve sweet spot as well. it does not suggest a recession coming by any means. but it is also weak enough that mayen courage the fed to cut rates by a quarter point at its meeting later this month. the stock market has rallied higher the past two sessions. looks like investor are taking a bit of a breather this morning. dour is up five point in the early going. the nasdaq down 17 and the s&p now turning lower by th
