joining us on the phone, kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks. good morning jason. >> good morning len. some tough numbers to go over for the economy. the commerce department reporting that second quarter gpd plummeted nearly 33% as the pandemic slammed the economy. by comparison during the financial crisis, the biggest drop was 8.4% in the fourth quarter of 2008. millions of americans suddenly found themselves out of work and that results in a more than 34% plunge in consumer spending and that makes up two-thirds of the u.s. economy. and we're seeing the economy struggle once again. here in the third quarter, which has shown improvement as the economy started reopening around the country. but the surge in covid-19 cases is showing up on the unemployment line. the labor department reporting the second straight weekly gun of unemployment claims to more than 1.4 million. wall street not happy with the numbers. dow right now dropping by just over 400 points. to 26,136. nasdaq down over 60 points and s&p falling 36 points. back to you len. >> jasonin

joining us on the phone is kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks. good morning. >> the market looking rally after the losses on tuesday. with which pretty much gave back the rally in monday. a real up and down move for the market this week. as it deals with good news on the economy reopening in june against bad news on covid-19 cases. looking at record spikes across the u.s. and that is dampening that economic recovery. levi strauss feeling the blues. san francisco based apparel maker reported more than 60% dive in quarterly revenue as its sales dropped off during the shutdown. levi is going to cut jobs to make up for weaker sales and laying off 15% of its global corporate work force totalling 700 jobs. if there's a silver lining for them, its online sales were up by 25%. but shares in levi falling by about 6.5% this morning but overall the market is heading higher. dow up just over 112 points and nasdaq gaining about 99 points. len, back to you. >> all right, jason, thank you. >>> developing this morning, a bay area woman is suing petsmart. she say
