cnn white house correspondent brianna keeler is at camp david joining us this morning.what do we expect out of this gathering today? >> today, randi, is going to be all about the economy. we expect president obama to kick things off shortly with some welcoming remarks and then there are going to be a series, five different working sessions. kind of discussions as the world leaders talk about really the number one issue here which is the european economic crisis. it's threatening right now as it goes into its third year to possibly spill over into a global economic crisis and that would affect the us. europe has really sort of with germany set the tone, done a lot of belt tightening. i mean cutting government spending in some of the eurozone nations and they've seen their growth stagnate. so europe is really at a crossroads trying to decide how to move forward. president obama you can see this setting behind me. this is camp round meadow which is just down the road from camp david and is very serene here. that was sort of the point. president obama picked this locale for

we're going to get flow to cnn's brianna keeler. we'll talk about the protests happening at camp david. you have been following all of this. what are you seeing? >> reporter: we haven't seen any protests actually, don. we're quite far away from that, just down the road from camp david in an area that certainly protesters would be kept far from. but what we really saw today was a focus on the euro zone crisis. it's entering year three and we're seeing a shift, moving more towards a strategy that president obama has been advocating for some time, focusing not just on government spending cuts, on budget cuts, but focusing as well on stimulus, if you will. on trying to create economic growth and jobs. something that has alluded a number of euro zone nations for some time now. president obama is really watching the situation in europe during this election year, afraid certainly that it could spill over and affect the fragile economic recovery in the u.s. here's what he said today. >> a stable growing european economy is in everybody's be

brianna keeler is at the white house now. so we're allen othe same page.ost a whole year ago, but it was almost a whole year ago. why are we doing it again now? >> reporter: well, because it will expire again somewhat soon, ashleigh. set to expire somewhere around the new year. last time we thought it was in the spring and it really moved into the summer because treasury is able to kind of fudge some of the number, move things around so that the debt ceiling isn't hit. it's looking that would be sometime maybe early in the new year, but it's really popping up right now because let's be honest, it's an election year and this tussle is starting earlier. it started yesterday with speaker boehner initiating this fight by really drawing a line in the sand saying that he won't go for a debt ceiling increase if tax increases are included. he'll go if for deep spending cuts, he'll go for tax reform, but no tax increases. and as you can see, that is very much of a deja vu. teed up just in time for a meeting at the white house between president obama and congression
