here is meteorologist keith monday in severe weather center 9. keith? >> we're watching this storm evolve out here this morning with the worstonditions up north. i-40 corridor and the mountains. what we've seen in and around very few flakes or pine little mist. you can check out the twitter account. trying to take a video. it is hard to see. very light falling out there right now. we'll watch this. we have chrissine rapp watching this closely. up north between morganton and hickory. we've seen the i-40 corridor turn into snow. it may not add much here but it is enough with the cold temperatures in the low 20's to the north where you'll see more of an issue. the mountains, we've seen the snow ease up more. this will fill back in as the morning goes on. you're in the teens and that is where you'll find slick travel. joe bruno has been monitor this situation in blowing rock. we're at 29 in charlotte and that number may be stuck right there for the entire day today. we're not going to get a significant jump in the numbers until tonight as a matter of fact.

that's des moines right there where keith was reporting from. some snow starting to move into the western part of iowa. this will progress over the next 24 hours across that area. so folks watching that very closely. cold front to the north of us with that area of low pressure. high pressure is our big feature sending us that easterly flow and, of course, at forementioned moisture into the area. if you stare at this a bit, you can make out some of the sea fog, low cloudiness right along coastal areas in place. fog forecast already confirms that, too, low visibility into the early morning hours, starting to clear up around 11 a.m. in some areas but maybe holding on bay and coastal areas. our p.m. flow and a slight possibility of showers especially favoring inland areas and warmer temperatures overall. as we get into wednesday, approaching cold front. this gets a little closer thursday. that's our rain chance for thursday into the early part of friday with the passage of this front, possible thunderstorms, too. that's our next rain chance that you

meteorologist keith monday is in severe weather center 9. this is the quiet part before we see the storm. >> yeah it really is. let me show you what's moving in through this morning and what i've been watching all night. a big cluster of storm from columbia south is where the nasty weather is. that's robbing the severe threat from coming our direction for the time being. that's good news. quiet scan overall. there are moderate showers overthrough york county now passing into richburg and rock hill on highway i-77. a much bigger cluster south of lancaster. that will be northbound toward lancaster toward buford. we'll see a few of these here this morning. not widespread downpours, but the pockets of heavy rain with us. temperatures holding to 60 as we head through later this morning. bigger storm chance. i just got a new update to show you in a moment and what we can expect coming through the region and how quickly we clear out through this afternoon. >>> about 5:01, the wet roads could be leading to problems. >> we have an overnight accident

let's go back to meteorologist keith monday with an update on that system for us right now. keith? >> let's look at some of the strong winds coming through the region here. we've looked at our data on live early warning doppler 9. there's been a severe thunderstorm warning issued for york and chester county working into mecklenburg county. these wind speeds estimated picking up from around 50 miles per hour to 60 miles per hour or stronger. now again some of the returns we're getting from the radar are pretty high up in the sky. but it's picking up wind above us of 60 plus miles per hour. so i'm really concerned about some significant wind damage working its way into rock hill to fort mill down in through chester. probably get another severe thunderstorm warning issued out of this line. moving at 55 to 60 miles per hour. earlier, we came on the air, right around 11:30, 11:40, there was a tornado warning alexander counties. the storm that prompted the warning through alexander, moved out into wilkes county. and they've raised it to a severe thunderstorm warning. tornado warning. tha
