nbc 10's keith jones is live in the digital operations center with reaction from both sides in this high-profile trial. >> keith, this case led to a number of drug convictions being overturned. so what happens next? >> reporter: well the big question now is will these officers try to get their jobs back? at least one officer outside the courtroom today said yes, he was going to try to do that. others, well they just wanted to celebrate the verdict. there was a lot of hugging and smiling between the officers the lawyers, the loved ones. the six men were accused of planting evidence roughing people up and lying to win convictions, but the defendants maintained the entire time they never did anything wrong. >> we knew from the beginning of this case this was going to be a very difficult case to bring. kis case that had to be brought. we don't regret that decision in the least. >> i want to thank the jury for their verdict, and they believed in us and i just want to get on with my life and i'll refer all questions to my attorney. i appreciate it. >> reporter: about 160 convictions were overturned as

nbc 10's keith jones live there as well. keith, what can you tell us? >> reporter: yeah just, jim, just when you think it's bad, it seems to get worse. about 20 minutes ago we were moved to this location. we were all the way down there by that wooden area. that's where the train derailed back there. it is quite the scene. there are two groups, two areas where they're triaged. they're caring for people back there. let's take a look at the video right now. the injuries up to this point, i've seen bruises, lacerations, i've seen cuts. one of the passengers i spoke with didn't want to describe what he saw on board the train that derailed. this is wheatsheaf lane, multiple injuries, 50 is what we're hearing. this is what i heard thus far. the bucks county congressman is -- let's go back live right now. what we're awaiting for is philadelphia mayor michael nutter to arrive on scene. this is a hectic scene over here. also philadelphia police commissioner charles ramsey. he's right there in the middle wearing white. we're waiting for him to address the media up

only to learn what happened but why it happened to try to prevent it from ever happening again, keith jones is joining me live, there's been a lot of discussion about the infrastructure, and the aging of those tracks today. >> we learned that a new safety system could have saved the train here the infrastructure was not installed on the tracks behind us we ask legislationers why. >> utter devastation. >> i have never ever seen anything like this in my life. >> i spoke with governor tom wolf after he tored the wreckage, this all could have been prevented by a sophisticated system of sensors on the rails inside the engine called called ptc. if a train is too fast the computer warns the crew if the crew doesn't slow the train, the computer activates the brakes. >> this is the type of incident ptc is designed to prevent. we have seen this before and we will continue to see it again until ptc is installed. >> all u.s. railroads required by law to install ptc by the end of the year, while the tracks in the northeast corridor have been updated, crews haven't gotten to this curve yet. >> are you go

reporting in shamon township keith jones, nbc 10 news. >>> another big story tonight, fallout that shows a police officer kicking a suspect in the head. officer thomas webster made the arrest almost two years ago but now there's video evidence showing what happened to dickerson. plenty of reaction on both sides. nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal joining us now. >> reporter: dickerson filed a lawsuit against the city of dover claiming he was trying to lie on the ground and surrender after police approached him after a fight. that's when he was knocked out cold and the video of the incident just released today. we showed the dash cam footage to locals here. >> are you serious? >> get on the [ bleep ] ground. >> reporter: prosecutors say thomas webster delivers a swift kick to the suspect and breaking the man's jaw. two years later, webster is indicted for assault. >> he deserved to get arrested. >> reporter: he is a local naacp says the charges took far too long to come down. >> there was no reason to take that use of force against mr. dickerson at all. >> reporter: they're planning peaceful prote
