[applause] >> thank you for that wonderful introduction. thank you all for coming. i'm really excited and honored to have nicole jones of the new york times magazine here is the first delacorte speaker of the year. the call began her career in newspapers, she worked at the news observer in raleigh-durham working on the education be. she then moved to portland, all the way across the country. to work at the oregonian. there she focused on housing discrimination. >> for part of the time. when she moved to new york to start at pro- public aware she published a series of incredibly important in moving, highly recommended pieces about the resegregation of america's cities and schools. not just segregation, but anybody who is not blind is aware of but the actual act of continuing the process of the resegregation of our cities and education system. and a year ago she was hired away by the new york times magazine where she has continued her work. there two reasons why am happy were having this conversation. one is that i think because this is was to be magazine focused lecture series, the work that nicole has been doing isng
