the police chief has been saying, they don't believe that it offers definitive proof about whether or not keith scott was actually holding a gun. in the video, you see keith scott exit the car. he's standing in between the cars there in the parking lot. the family for keith scott say they do not believe he was acting aggressively or moving toward the officers in any way. so that's why they say they have many more questions as to answers as to what exactly happened. there's also the body cam footage that shows an officer approaching the back of keith scott's car and one question we should clarify in all of this, the first 20 seconds of the video does not have audio. according to a city official in charlotte, they say that's the way they operate. they immediately begin recording video once the officer engages the camera but it takes 20 seconds or so for the audio to kick in. that's the explanation we're getting right now as to why there's no audio on the body cam footage. once again, many people beginning to process, analyze these videos and try to make sense of it all. and the family says that more investigation is needed. the mayor for the city of charlotte say

this marked the second night of violent in the wake of the fatal police shooting of keith scott on tuesday. police say scottas given multiple warnings by officers to drop his weapon, but a witness at the scene says scott did not have a gun and was reading a book in his car when he was shot. and a police source confirms that in an image obtained by our local affiliate, there appears to be a gun at keith scott's feet in the moments after he was shot. joining us from charlotte is nbc's sarah risario. what's going on there this morning? >> reporter: well, it's much different this morning than what it was a cup hours ago. the streets are being cleaned. just a couple hours ago, hundreds of people were marching through these streets, protesting the shooting death of 43-year-old keith scott. now many people are still upset about it. they're going to bed now, but we do expect more protests to arise later today. anger, racial tensions boiling over after yet another officer-involved shooting. the unrest and the violence continuing for a second night here in charlotte, bricking out police in the riot gear, having to us

protesters were calling for the release of video showing bradley vincent shooting keith lamont scott. the scott family says they were allowed to see it according to their attorney and they say the actions were different from the descriptions from police. we have the latest from cnn's nick valencia. >> reporter: good morning, john. we have seen different actions last night from the previous two nights. the protests were peaceful. there was a curfew in effect, but police did not see the need to implement that curfew because things were going well. when we were here, the national guard was present. it has been an hour and a half since they rolled out of here. they were mingling and having dialogue when we pulled up on the scene. the protests yesterday, no injuries were immediately reported, though police said two officers were sprayed with a chemical agent. they did not expand on what those officers were sprayed with. a welcome sight. you said that right, john. 24 hours ago, if you remember here, there were people out on the streets and businesses cleaning up the aftermath of the riots. graffiti on buildings

keith scott. police say the officer approached scott, who got out of his car armed with a gun. that's when police say they shot him. ""the officers gave loud, clear, verbal commands.... " "i know that gentlemen was dead when i walked up here. he didn't respond." " scott's family says he was unarmed and was only holding a book. they are demanding the police department hold the officer accountable. a jury has returned a lesser verdict in the murder trial of this man. they found david miller guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the death of sabrina janish. miller was originally charged with first-degree murder. police found janish dead in the she'd been strangled and stabbed multiple times. cedar rapids police say they never found a specific or credible threat to jefferson high school. their investigation was related to a 15-year- old boy who shot and killed himself at the high school, earlier this month. after the suicide, police investigated the student's social media posts for credible threats of a mass shooting at the school. they found none. it'll take at least one more night.

there are two very different versions of keith scott's shootings. the police say that scott had a gun. his friends and family say what was in his hand was a book. police showed the video to the family. they said that the video had more emily: officer betty shelby has been charged. she claims she felt threatened by terence crutcher, when she came across his car on her way to another call. police dash cam video shows shelby approaching crutcher with his hands up, before she shoots. she's charged with manslaughter. heather: it's business as usual now at new york's laguardia airport after an abandoned suv causes a panic. night after officers noticed the unattended suv. a port authority spokesman says the terminal was evacuated for about an hour before the vehicle was cleared without incident. the suv was towed from the airport. there's no word yet on who left it at the terminal. emily: commitment 2016 -- both hillary clinton and donald trump are taking time off the trail today to get ready for their first match-up on monday night. newscenter 5 will be there. i will be reporting
