abc 7 reporter matt keller is live at the chp office in hayward with new details on the driver, victims and investigation. matt? >> reporter: we just got some new information from the chp, they say the three fatal victims are from mantika, a 39-year-old woman and two kids, a 9 and 14-year-old. meanwhile, the person that chp says is responsible for their deaths is in jail. the aftermath was horrific. eight people were inside this cadillac escalade last night around 9:30 on northbound 880 in fremont just before stevenson boulevard when a crash involving five vehicles happened. the white suv rolled over, three people ejected and killed. the chief of the golden gate division says two of the fatal victims were children. five others were inside the escalade including four juveniles. they were injured and taken to the hospital. witnesses told chp the driver of a white toyota camry was speeding and driving erratically before the crash. >> based on the officers training and experience and their investigation, they determined that he was under the influence of marijuana. >> reporter: the chp clos

abc7 news reporter matt keller live at the hospital with the latest. matt? >> reporter: unusual night, unusual morning here at valley medical center. ambulances diverted for about an hour overnight and the helicopter shut down for decontamination with the emergency department stayed open the entire time. an unusual scene in san jose overnight. two flight crew members from the medical helicopter and two emergency department staff being decontaminated in a parking lot. >> we are a 24/7 emergency department and well equipped. >> reporter: firefighters say they were called to a production facility late last night. a worker had chemicals splashed on him and decontaminated and put on a medical helicopter to san jose and during the flight crew members reported respiratory issues and itchy faces. when they landed, they were patients, as well. they started the decontamination protocol. firefighters didn't know the exact chemicals original patient was exposed to but narrowed it down to two acids and two bases that could have mixed together. >> it was stuff for d econ

matt keller has the story. >> reporter: you think you had a rough morning? the driver of this big rig to watch the fuel tank removed from the truck on a freeway. he told chp officers he heard a loud noise driving southbound on 680 just before al costa boulevard 2:10 this morning causing him to lose control. >> because the driver had swerved and hit the center divide and what happened before that we can't -- we're not going to be able to tell and he hit the center divide wall and definitely cracked it and dropped it off of the side of the truck. >> reporter: the driver was okay and 70 gallons of diesel fuel spilled before the truck stopped. chp blocked off two lanes and the exit lane for two and a half hours before cal trans arrived to clean up. chp gave the sweepers a chance t clean up the far left lanes. traffic for miles. once the sweepers were down in the three left lanes, they were reopened and the three right lanes closed until 8:00. good news, traffic back to normal and the chp says none of the diesel feel ended up in the drainage system. in san ramon,

abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live in palo al t warn the public not to do what the victim did, is that right? >> reporter: yes, that's right. they are investigating to see if the same group of suspected is responsible for another armed robbery that took place saturday night in a nearby city. this one here in palo alto happened at about 10:45 saturday night as a 17-year-old was walking and talking on his phone in downtown palo alto when he was approached by three men. they demanded his phone. he refused. they then pulled out a gun and pointed it at the teenager. he, again, refused. that's when one of the robbers punched the 17-year-old in the head, and the victim was on the ground, and the three men took his cell phone and cash and hopped into a waiting car. police say he was lucky he was not seriously hurt or worse. >> we would encourage the person in that situation to obviously comply. don't take your chances when they produce any type of weapon, whether it be a knife, a gun, what have you, don't put yourself in unnecessary danger for something that is obviously property. >> repo

matt keller is live at the hospital with the latest, matt? >> reporter: yes, hi, this is a power plant where ruby anderson's body was found yesterday in a stairwell. it was open for anyone to enter between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. because of what happened, the staff made changes. now you need a badge to enter that building. the sheriff gave us a timeline for the disappearance. living on campus, but not a patient at the general hospital. a worker contacted the sheriff's office on may 20 to report she left the day before and not returned. sheriff office contacted family, the jail, medical examiner's office, and san francisco police department. anderson's body was found ten days after being reported missing. that was yesterday. the stairwell of the power plant here on campus, something similar happened five years ago, a body of a 58-year-old was found in a stairwell in the hospital building after missing for 17 days. new security protocols put in place after that, but because anderson was not a hospital patient technically, those were not necessa

abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live at the hospital with details on how many people were exposed to the chemical. hi, matt. >> reporter: good morning, jessica. this is where it all went down, right in this parking lot right outside the emergency room. that's where the decontamination process took place. san jose fire was called to valley medical center about 11:45 to help with a possible hazmat situation. hospital workers needed help with the decontamination procedure. this started as a patient was flown in on a medical helicopter. firefighters contacted the patient's employer to find out what substance he and the medical staff was exposed to. they isolated the patient and staff. >> we were able to determine that it was just stuff that needed to be deconned with soap and water. we were able to do that with the assistance of valley medical personnel. >> the helipad was shut down as they worked on getting the helicopter decontaminated. firefighters say this is not normal here but all the proper procedures were followed. live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. >>> happening today
