i kind of lost that thread, kelly.he day when that happened, when everybody was like, low volatility is a good thing, or is a bad thing? >> right, right. >> and so, what do they want yellen to do, introduce more uncertainty and we'd all be better people because we're more confused about monetary policy? i think yellen has an interesting position right now in that the fed has real good agreement about the end of the year and has pretty good agreement about the first six months of next year. and that could change a few months early, a few months later. i don't know what else you want from monetary policy here. going out, it looks like about a year, we've got pretty good certainty about the trajectory. if they want her to be more circumspect, introduce more volatility, i imagine she could do that. i'm not sure she would think that that's going to benefit attainment of the fed's goals of maximum employment and low inflation. >> well, that's a point garcia was making yesterday, which is to say that if you're worried about f

>> great question, kelly.unlike most therapeutics, most medicines, every time a physician makes the decision to use an antibiotic to treat a given patient, that physician is trading off what's best for the patient versus what's best for society. the more exposure the bacteria have to an antibiotic, the greater the likelihood is that we're going to select out resistant clones. and with bacteria, they can share those resistance genes across species. and that's one of the challenges. one of the reasons we need to have a steady stream of new antibiotics to deal with these very serious infections, which, frankly, prepenicillin, you get a nasty wound infection, very high likelihood you end up dying from that. and of course, today we don't expect that at all, and it's because of effective antibiotics over the last 70 years. >> crazy stuff. i mean, i'm a capitalist as much as anybody, but it's crazy that they can't develop -- or they choose not to develop just simply because the income won't be as much down the road.

kelly? >>> dominic chu is tracking some of the big movers. >> starting with energy, the sectors, the worst performing one in the s&p 500 today, but it's still the second best performer so far in 2014. so, to keep things in perspective there, energy a nice run, taking a pause today. now, a rough day for web.com shares, falling more than 20% as google announces it's begun testing a competing service that registers internet domain names, so a big competitor possibly coming to web.com. also, a strong day of trading for some of america's biggest homebuilders. better-than-expected data on the new home sales front jolted shares of big names like d.r. horton, lennar and pulte, all bucking the trend, up on the session. and groupon popping 6% at one point as analysts at piper jaffray say the deals on their website are expected to rise by 30% this year. but remember, the stock groupon has dropped about 40% in 2014. there's still a long way to go for that stock. lastly, finishing off with vertex pharmac

kpix 5's mark kelly is at the scene on third street and mark what's the latest? >> reporter: well, michelle, the fire is now under control they have these hot spots out. that's what they've been dealing with since about 3:30 this morning when the fire crews first got here. and these flames broke out. now the division chief tells me when he got here, he called the flames extreme and they started at the back of this cleaners: this is mcafee cleaners on third street. of course it's under investigation. we have no idea what exactly caused this fire. but right next door to the cleaners is a construction site. that had a little bit of damage from the fire. and on the other side of the cleaners is a sandwich shop. well-known in this neck of the woods. it's called constance. i talked to the owner of constance. he says there's a fire at this cleaners just nine months ago. out of the exact same area. i also asked the division chief this morning if constance's sandwich shop is going to be ready to open the morning. >> they have some heavy smoke damage in there. the side wal
