>> hey, kelly.h, fed governor chris waller igniting a bond and stock market rally when he said the quiet part out loud, and that is if inflagsz infl inflation continues to fall, the fed will lower rates. those were good enough for 15 points on the s&p 500. the market reacted first pretty well to his remarks but shot up during the q and a when he talked about rate cuts. the ten-year fell about four basis points in yield. by way of background, i asked chief fed officials last week about rate cuts. they weren't having it. that followed the lead of jay powell who said recently on november 1st -- >> well, you can see what waller's talking about here when you look at inflation versus the fed fund rate. inflation has come down and the fundslevated. the gap will continue to get tighter as inflagtion continues to fall. now, it remains to be seen if other fed officials, even the chairman, echo those words. the fed has not wanted to talk about cuts for fear it would hobble its fight against infl inflation, and

look, i came on this show, mostly to listen, kelly. i was hoping that between chris and greg, i was going to know which way to lean. most of this past year, i haven't been in a recession camp, and it's been the right call but what's gotten me more nervous is the rise in interest rates, and knowing that consume ers ers are feeling this one thing that's not mentioned is the extent to which rates remain high and companies have to refinance their low pandemic era debt into those higher rates. if the fed can ease back just in time before we hit some of those refinancing cliffs, i think we might avoid it but if a lot of companies have to refinance and consumers as well, into those higher rates, then i think we risk a potential recession. >> chris, that was the argument we are getting into with bill lee a little yesterday he want it s the fed to wait un they pivot but if you want to save a hard e landing, you have to act quickly before you see the weakness in the economy showing up what can the fed do to keep us from going into recession? >>

kelly: we have had el niÑo. dr. wehner: in the past, of course. sen. kelly: what is the cycle? dr.ehner: every four to seven years. 1990 it was a huge el niÑo year and then every year after was cooler. i had to read papers saying is the climate warming or cooling because people were saying climate change stopped. sen. kelly: the co2, methane, carbon dioxide did not just disappear from the atmosphere. dr. wehner: no. the longer the data records, the more informative it is. sen. kelly: do you expect future three sigma defense to occur more frequently. dr. wehner: i cannot say. i don't think we understand changes in very ability nearly as well as changes in the average. i certainly can tell you this summer event throughout the world was unusual. it will be the norm in short period of time. sen. kelly: you feel the messaging in the u.s. and across the planet on this issue and this three sigma event is insufficient -- is sufficient? what do you feel media and others are falling short? dr. wehner: i am not sure how that question. to meet the data always speaks for itself but i am not an

alongside kelly evans i'm jon fortt. stocks are jumping today as markets react to the fed decision and the chairman's press conference. yields tumbling as markets seem to think the fed is done hiking. we'll break down what that means for stocks. look ahead to the next big event, apple earnings. plus, rising rates have made buying a house more expensive quickly. what that's done to the real estate market and discuss the battle over broker fees. >> and that's a juicy one. let's get a check on the markets speaking of juicy, the dow is up 503 points. apple reports after the bell, up 1.5%, while the s&p is 1.75 and the nasdaq up 1.6%. all of this on the back of lower bond yields. look at shares of starbucks after sales and profits beat estimate, up 11%, guidance above the current estimate that's been a rare thing lately. the ceo saying demand remains strongp and the pumpkin spiced latte is helping boost sales. yields, a quick check on the 10-year. where we see that yield dropping down to about 4.65% today from a recent high a

we have been hesitating, kelly.ore than a week around this 45, 50 level of the s&p but before that and three weeks prior you're up 10%. little fatigue in the market. got pretty dovish interpretation of that fed governor waller speech earlier. that was mostly in the market that the fed's next move is likely a cut. but i do think that gives some relief on yields. just wonder how much more you can get out of that in very short term because we have been operating for weeks under the premises of we're well past peak yield, peak inflation and peak oil. yields down. oil, other commodities like gold up and the dollar off a little bit. so, i think we're kind of, you know, just sort of circling around the edges of this rally. to me, the big take away going into next year is what waller said and the main message has been the fed snot looking to really undercut this economy and bring it to a screeching halt. but we just don't know if the economy on its own will be slowing more than desired. so that keeps us in this late cycle p
