joining us live is senior managing director is kelly h hardy, thanks for being here kelly. >> thanks so much for having me. >> first let's talk about california ranking 33rd among states when it comes to child well-being. that does seem a bit surprising for some people. what does the study look at when it comes to getting to that ranking? >> sure, so the foundation that looks at 16 different data sets across economics, child health, education -- things like low birth rate, child poverty, etc. and compiles them all and comes up with rankings for all 50 states and how they are doing in supporting children in their state. and as you said people are sometimes surprised that california doesn't come out looking so great. we consider ourselves to be the top in technology, environment and we are not doing as well in supporting children. >> this is a study that is released every year. how have we done year to year then? the pandemic had a big role in this. >> absolutely. the pandemic has been as we know a very tough impact on children and everybody across all the states. over time california
