and jon givner deputy city attorney and kelly kirkpatrick, and congratulations kelly kirkpatrick to your new assignment. i want to really thank all of you as a team, you worked really well with the budget committee. a few things i appreciated that we were able to support even further than the budget presented to us are things around food security. we did real well on that. we did real well in trying to get more services for seniors. such lacking. even with the dignity fund that president cohen lead in that proposition, even though we won that, it's just not enough. i want to thank all my colleagues to understand even though we had prop-c education initiative passing, this understanding it might not kick in real quickly and that we needed some gap funding to make sure we don't leave existing infants and toddlers in service be left out of the loop. so thank you for your $2 million for early education e.c.e. piece that was added back. i want to thank my colleagues on the budget committee besides chair cohen. vice chair sandy fewer and catherine stefani and supervisor sheehy. thank you very

kelly kirkpatrick, if you could verify that. that's $1 million over -- $1 million for one year, correct, for last year's process? she's looking it up. she will get back to us. let's pivot to your other -- >> supervisor sheehy: sure. again, i would say that we can have that conversation one of the arguments that i was looking at is that sometimes at least the way it's been in terms of the requests that have come in, some of the different budget priorities shift given the fact that some departments that work with different organizations don't necessarily -- we don't see the same type of budget priority request, if there's been that target over two years and then a different request this year, for instance. an example would be, that we were working to fund transitional youth employment intervention work, so we worked with the department of children, youth and families on that last year. we're now pretty solid in terms of moving the conversation forward. we don't see the same level of request that we're seeing for this year. we do h

after public comment, we will hear from kelly kirkpatrick on the rebalancing plan, and i will offer some brief remarks on the proposed spending plan that is now public. chief, welcome back to the chamber. >>> thank you. >> supervisor cohen: please give you the floor. the floor is yours. >> thank you, supervisor, thank you, board committee. i want to start out by just saying i sent to the committee some documents friday evening just based on our last session, and that included the controller's sector car patrolling staffer's analysis. supervisor sheehy had requested some copy of the cost of crime, so i ran the cost of crime calculator, and a pretty comprehensive study the ram institute did on the cost of crime. also i sent you the proposed academy class schedule, and the last slide is a breakdown of the 250 proposed additional officers that we're requesting in this budget. with that said, let me just give an overview of where we are and where we ended up on friday. as i said friday, we thank the b.l.a. for their report, and we do support and are in agreement with the 2.9 million in cuts,
