kelly wright is in washington, d.c. with the latest on fema and the other federal agencies and how they are coordinating efforts today and the next couple of days. >> reporter: hey, rick. good morning to you. the and the fema want to be prepared for this one. so the word right now is preparation, getting the coordination. president obama is being kept up to date overnight about irene throughout the night, from fema and his aides and during a meeting with fema, the president said, it's going to be a tough slog for the cities and states living in irene's fath path. he is certainly right about that. he visited fema's command center early on sunday to get a regional update on the plans for federal emergency response to irene. the president telling his staff at that time that fema was doing a very good job, but he still had some concerns. >> what we heard, the biggest concern right now is dealing with flooding and power. it sounds like that's going to be an enormous strain on a lot of states and that may take days, even lopi

kelly wright is live with the rest of that. >> good morning to you. president obama is on vacation but keeping a close eye of what's going on. since early sunday, he's been receiving regular updates from his homeland security and counterterrorism advisor john brennan and the president conducted a conference call after 9:00 p.m. with members of his national security team who briefed him on the dramatic developments in libya. in a statement, president obama says the bloodshed must end stating tripoli is slipping from the grasp of a tyrant. the surest way for the bloodshed to end is simple. muammar qaddafi and his regime need to recognize that their rule has come to an end. now, as those jubilant rebel forces celebrate in tripoli, the capital of libya, senator john mccain and senator lindsay graham both have visited the country and they're strong proponents of nato military action, they have issued a joint statement saying the collapse of the qaddafi regime is a victory for the libyan people and put other dictators on notice. here's what they're saying.

we head over to kelly wright in washington with the latest on the president's response to irene.s isn't over. >> no, it clearly is not over. and this is something that the president had been watching for sometime now and president obama said fema had begun working with state and local authorities even before hurricane irene made landfall and in the aftermath of this storm, fema continues to work now and helping with the response and recovery efforts. hurricane irene may be over but the storm left its mark on many areas from puerto rico to vermont as we've been seeing all throughout new england and vermont and new jersey, not residents are being warned to stay away from low lying areas where swollen rivers and creeks are causing flash floods and major flooding in those areas. irene also created the mudslides in puerto rico. let's take a look at these pictures right now of how the mudslides claimed homes in the municipality. all this caused by hurricane irene. fema is working very closely with the area to rebuild the community to be better and stronger than before and prior to the
