kellye lynn went to find out why the senior is so deserving of the honor. >> for four years, 21-year-old cameron clark walked the campus of howard university as a student. now he has a new title. >> it's a fantastic opportunity. is it the chance to study -- it's the chance to study at one of the greatest schools in world and to be able to all sort of doors for what i want to do with the career. kellye: he hopes to be a physician and he will pursue a masters in oxford university in england as newly named rhodes scholar. >> he is bright, articulate. well-spoken and mature. rhodes scholar from the university. the certified e.m.t. columnist for the school newspaper and the congressional intern is one of the 32 rhodes scholars selected from around the country. he joins a handful of the students from the schools in the region who also receiver the honor. >> cameron is probably one of the more interesting people i have met at howard. dedicated. smart. giving. kellye: maintaining the academic excellence, character and concern for others helped clark win the two-year bring him closer to the goal

today kellye lynn looks at a program designed to bring >> excellent. keep going. kellye: 7-year-old cracker makes reading a priority -- 7-year-old clark makes reading a priority to read a book every day. he is doing exactly that with the help of an organization known as the reading partners. >> students enrolled are a few months behind grade level in reading to two and a half years behind the grade level in reading. we work with a tailored year to close literacy gap. kellye: it places volunteers tutors in the neediest schools. the goal is to have them reading at the grade level by the fourth grade. how important are the strong reading skills? students who are not reading at grade level by the fourth grade are four times more lakely to not graduate for high school on time. >> they get the individualized attention something that a class room teacher with multiple students can't invited reading partners to share detail of success to my brother's keeper showcase. >> 87% of the students in the past year were able to gain essentials it will rasly skills they need to be
