i'm kelsi thorud. it is been eight days since hamas militants launched a surprise attack on israel, prompting israeli prime minister to declare war. palestinians in gaza are taking the brunt of israel's airstrikes with the death toll climbing by the hour. they are urging civilians to move to southern gaza. un shelters across gaza have run out of water and hospitals could run out of fuel for emergency generators within the next two days . so far, the war has claimed the lives of more than 2300 palestinians. 1300 israelis. israeli troops and tanks are positioned on the gaza border for what is expected to be a large scale ground offensive. and military spokesperson said israeli special forces already carrying out raids in gaza. he also says they killed a prominent hamas commander. >> i can inform you that over the night, we attacked and killed one of the commanders, leaders. he was the leader that conducted the butcher and attach . we have the intelligence, in order to take out the leadership of hamas. >>

kelsi thorud spoke with the group walk san francisco who says more work needs to be done to keep our safe, but this is a step in the right direction. >> reporter: governor gavin newsom has signed a bill into law that will allow the use of speed cameras in the state. san francisco, san jose, and oakland, along with three other cities in southern california will now be able to pilot speed camera programs. the law will allow san francisco to install 33 cameras across the city. the organization walk san francisco was a huge supporter of the bill from the beginning. walk sf's executive director jodie medeiros says she believes the new law will really help improve safety on city streets. >> we've seen it work in other places, places like new york city that has brought down speeding around the cameras by almost 60%. >> reporter: the pilot program will begin in 2025 here in the city and run for five years. the cameras will be placed on streets with the highest crash rates and school zones. jody told me while she's happy this program will be going into effect, it's just one of several strateg
