for now we're live in queens, kemberly richardson channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. new details at noon about a road rage shooting that injured a mom on long island and came it happened overnight on sunrise highway in east patching. the mother is now recovering in the hospital and officials just wrapped up a news conference. kristin thorne is live outside police headquarters in yay pang. . >> reporter: shirleen, thankfully the woman was not hurt. she was shot once in her hand and in her leg and thankfully these bullets did not hit her 11 week old daughter who was in the backseat. the concern for police here is that the shooter is still out there. this all happened around 9:00 last night on sunrise highway in east patchog. nicole's boyfriend edward was driving when he noticed a minivan driving erratically. pontis flashed his lights. the driver of the minivan slammed on his brakes and then there was a sort of back and forth what you would call a road rage incident. pulled up, rolled down his window and began yelling at the suspect, eventually he slammed on his brakes.

kemberly richardson, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. >>> a small part of the sawmill river parkway opening tonight after a police chase from the bronx to yonkers turned deadly. the driver of a nissan took off after nypd officers tried to pull the car over and ended up driving in the wrong way on the sawmill parkway. the nissan crashed into several cars. one suspect that tried to run away was shot and killed by a police officer. another suspect was arrested. the traffic situation is still on the sawmill an absolute mess tonight for drivers trying to get home. shannon sohn is over the scene with the latest. shannon? >> liz, despite one lane of traffic open on the southbound side as you mentioned, the damage is done. look at this volume on the southbound side of the sawmill it will take you back to the cross county parkway and here is where your real problem is. the cross county itself really isn't getting any benefit from this one lane being reopened. it's too much traffic to filter into that one area there. that is the cross county parkway there. the delays have gotten worse despite

it live on the upper east side, kemberly richardson, eyewitness news. >> kimberly, thank awe. >>> what good is a regulation if it's not enforced and if people don't know about it? the death of 12 new yorkers last summer from legionnaires' disease caused by contaminated cooling towers. the state now requires building owners to register their towers but that's coming up short. way short. here's long island reporter kristin phillips. >> reporter: well, bill, property owners had until september 16th to register their cooling towers with the state. i spoke with many property owners here on long island and registered because they say they weren't aware of the regulation. they didn't want to go on camera but told me they were never notified by the state department of health. under the new york state department of health regulation, registered cooling towers are listed on the department's website. eyewitness news researched the on-line database and found that many properties are missing. for example, this cooling tower it at a hotel, on street level, in a park lot, does not appear in the datab
