kemberly richardson at the federal courthouse in downtown brooklyn with the latest. >> just moments ago dennis murphy, jr. left the courthouse late this afternoon. a federal judge set bail bond at $50,000. murphy left the courthouse with his wife and his father. no one wanted to comment. if the allegations about the former jetblue pilot are true, he put countless people's lives in jeopardy including 151 passengers on the plane he was piloting back in april of last year. that's when federal authorities maintain murphy failed a field sobriety test. he blew a .11. when it comes to flying a plane, anything more than .10 is intoxicated. he was behind the controls of flight 584 from orlando to jfk, complaint, murphy's co-pilot saw him drinking an unknown beverage from a cup before and during the flight after taxiing to the gate, murphy was selected and officials say he failed the test. earlier that same day, april 21st of 2015, murphy piloted another flight, flight 583 from jfk to orlando with 119 passengers onboard. murphy was arrested at his home in new jersey this morning. at the time of t

. >> eyewitness news reporter kemberly richardson live at the scene in midtown with the very latest. >> a huge plume of steam and rocks and other debris. that's what came shooting out of the ground here on 58th street and came raining down on everywhere who was here. take a look. this stretched between 6th and 7th avenues is still closed. crews in protective gear have been out here taking samples. it is a mess. now the concern, asbestos. >> all of the sudden there was >> reporter: it was actually steam. this cell phone video shows just how much. >> it was that high, like seven stories high. steam coming out. >> reporter: officials say right around 9:40 this morning, here on 58th street between 6th and 7th avenues, a problem underground sparked a chain reaction. >> the water leak is what caused a steam issue, obviously water affects the steam pipes in the ground and then you have steam coming up through the ground. >> that water pipe beneath the roadway sent enough water pouring on to the steam pipe that heavy thick vapors poured out in actually two spots right near each other. >> was

. >> kemberly richardson spoke to the driver. she has the story from the sound view section. >> i never saw him before. i really had no idea. >> reporter: it's still tough for him to tell me what happened. his severely left eye and broken nose are all indications how violently he was attacked. >> he punched me very close. >> reporter: cameras mounted on his house captured everything. muhammad was with his brother their car up to their driveway. his brother opens the gate and you see him walk through and pick up a bag of garbage to put on the curve. he's standing still holding a bag. the suspect then walks up to him. >> he passed me and he back again and he told me what time is it now. i said that's it. and he punched my eyes. >> reporter: a simple question and short answer and without warning a crushing blow to the face. >> i closed my eyes. i'm bleeding my nose and mouth. >> reporter: it's not over. he tells me what happened next. >> yes. he called my brother and said join us, let's go. >> reporter: the suspect didn't make good

eyewitness news reporter kemberly richardson joining us live at the park with the very latest. kemberly. >>reporter: david, detectives from the central park precinct are trying to make sense of what can only be described, if true, as a sickening proposition. proposition, a father trying to sell his son for sex. >> i think it's crazy. >>reporter: a sentiment shared by many about what police say may have happened here near the bow bridge on the west side of central park. this morning we spotted nypd detectives canvassing the area, following up on what a tourist told authorities, the details disturbing enough that police did mobilize last night, gathered at central park west according to the unidentified tourist from california, just before mi night he says the suspect and his 11-year-old son approached him. the father then, if true, did the unthinkable, asked if the tourist wanted to have sex with the young boy, even put a price tag on it, $300. everyone we spoke to about the allegations was stunned. >> we're both school teachers, actually, so it hits home. it's absolutely disgust

eyewitness news reporter kemberly richardson is there with more. >> that video shows how strangers came together and tried to help the victim right here. we now know she's an nyu graduate student. at one point they tried to lift this cab which is being towed away right now off of the 33-year-old woman. and another clip of video, too disturbing to show. one second you see the woman walking on the sidewalk. the taxi appears. then she simply disappears. >> i heard a crash and i went to go look and she was under the car. >> reporter: he's talking about this yellow cab, this exclusive cell phone video captures the agonizing chaotic seconds after the taxi hit, dragged and severely injured a woman. this is the man who was behind the wheel, the cab driver had nothing to say when asked what happened. but jay saw it all. >> it was just really nauseating to see. >> reporter: he was one of many who right after the accident dropped to their knees and tried to help the victim. one person called out to her. >> hello? hello? >> reporter: she didn't answer or move. >> and i just saw the cab fly up on th

kemberly richardson has the story. >> we actually do work all day and all night. we go from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. >> reporter: a well oiled machine which this time brings him here to long island bagel company. >> i would love to donate it to people who can benefit from it and eat it. >> reporter: robert is determined to feed the hungry without spending a penny. his nonprofit, rescuing leftover cuisine, is connected with over 100 food partners. they donate whatever excess they have at the end of the day. robert and an army of volunteers >> we bring the food to food banks, food pantries, homeless shelters. so we see a whole range of people from the elderly to the homeless to the working poor. >> reporter: all of the food must meet strict standards. for this 25-year-old who left a high paying job on wall street to start his organization, this is a deeply personal journey. the child of immigrants, robert tells me, at one point his parents struggled to provide food for his family. >> i remember a time when we didn't know where our next meal was coming from. >> reporter: something also on the

eyewitness news reporter kemberly richardson posted this video on her facebook and twitter pages. she's live for us in merrick with more on how the driver's >> this is the exact spot where that school bus burst in to flames. take a look at this street sign in the grass right below. one little girl who was on that bus tells me the kids were terrified that they ran off the bus. as for the man behind the wheel, tonight his bosses are calling him a model driver. >> oh, my gosh. the flames were, i don't know, 20, 30 feet up in the air. black smoke and then the smoke started to engulf the whole bus and it was coming from the back. >> reporter: she's talking about bus number 78, this cell phone video shows just how intense this fire was. >> for a school bus fire, it was a lot of flames and a lot of smoke. we had reports of the smoke being seen for miles away. >> reporter: a dozen volunteer firefighters rushed here to headquarters in merrick. luckily the station house is just a block from where the driver of the bus first started having problems. he was headed here to merrick avenue middl

kemberly richardson. eyewitness news. >>> big delays right now on the new jersey turnpike. all this because of emergency repairs. two lanes closed on the southbound eastern spur of the turnpike near exit 15x. traffic backed up to the tolls to enter the turnpike. >>> a search is underway tonight for the person who shot and killed a rutgers newark student and wounded his roommate. police say 21-year-old shani patel's body was found inside his central avenue apartment in newark last night. patel's roommate, a 23-year-old rutgers graduate, was also wounded. investigators believe the shooting may be drug-related. a $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest. >>> investigators are on the scene of a suspicious fire that destroyed a home in rocklin county. flames broke out on the second floor of a home in hill crest this morning. the homeowner and her adult son were inside the house at the time. they told firefighters they heard an explosion. the homeowner is okay but her to his hands and his face. >>> hillary clinton and bernie sanders may have stopped th

kemberly richardson is on the ground with the details. >> reporter: folks here say they had no idea what was going on. this is 58th street between 6th and seventh looking west. 6th avenue has re-opened. all the soot covering the trucks is from this incident that officials say started >> it was like that high, 7 stories high. >> reporter: people here at west 58th and 7th were track. >> reporter: rocks? >> yes, it was really bad. >> reporter: there were chaotic moments after there was a break in the water main and sent a plume of thick, white steam up above 58th street. >> there was a huge cloud of white smoke and i got like a waxy substance on my glasses, and it was hard to clean off. i got it all over my coat. >> reporter: firefighters were considering evacuating some of the buildings in the area. but still, they didn't know what was going on. >> there was no steam pipe explosion. as you can see, it would be a with high pressure steam in the street here in manhattan and water that might surround the pipe and not compromise it. it would create a small steam condition which it did. >> repo
