"no hope," she said, "we will try to have no fear." these are the ruins of columbia, south carolina, after sherman's troops moved up from georgia and destroyed it two weeks after the hampton roads peace conference. "columbia is but dust and ash," she said. ken, right now there is a restoration crew working here at the scene. also, firefighters have been escorting some of the residents back into the burned apartment unit so they can retrieve some of their things. firefighters say when they got here just before 1:30 this afternoon, three apartment buildings were on fire. investigators say they believe the fire started in the corner building here at mcallister and scott, then spread quickly to two other buildings on either side. we spoke with one of the residents home with their grandson at the time. she said firefighters rang her door to let her know she needed to evacuate. >> i saw flames coming up everywhere up there. they came and knocked my windows out. we were running downstairs. we saw the fire in the den next to the living room. >> reporter: firefighters say all the residents were able to make it out of their homes unhurt, but one firefighter did have to be taken to the hospital for a leg injury and exhaustion. we are told he is expected to be okay. they also tell us about 10 units were damaged by fire and about 25 people were displaced. the red cross is here at the scene helping many of them find place
