(ken) the state of kansas will pay richard jones 1- point-1 million dollars after he spent 17 years inail for a crime he didn't commit. jones... who you see on the left .... was convicted of a robbery in the parking lot of a walmart after witnesses misidentified jones as the suspect. there was also no physical evidence or dna linking jones to the crime. in 2017....jones was finally freed after the midwest innocence project and the university of kansas school of law helped uncover the wrongful conviction and after witnesses of the robbery could not tell him and another inmate apart. besides the settlement-- jones will receive a certificate of innocence and the record of his arrest and conviction will be expunged. (ken) you may remember the story of randall saito -- the patient who escaped a psychiatric hospital last year in hawaii before flying to san jose. (vicki) today -- hawaii's attorney general released the results of its investigation into saito's escape. terisa estacio joins us in studio with more. (terisa) today's report found that the hawaii state hospital was unable to adjust to a population involved with the justice system. and that was at least partially responsible for saito's escape. however, the report found that no single employee was responsible for the escape. saito was able to take a taxi to the airport... catching flights to maui and then san jose. he was captured days later by authorities in stockton. saito had been hospitalized since 1981 after being found not guilty by reason of insanity of killing a woman. after his escape in november of 2017 -- additional security measures were implemented at the hospital. six hospital employees were placed on - off duty status. two of them
