ken pritchett showing the rain today. that is what i have been talking about. temperatures are mild. snow levels way up there. they are delivering rainfall to the coastal hills. not a lot of wind out there because not a lot of dynamics with the systems. a lot of tropical moisture slam into had coastal hills. it is like a fire hose, just launching in our direction. so areas like davenport, stenson beach, they are receiving rain while places like san jose a 10 10th of an inch of rain in two days. interesting weather pattern. we are getting plenty of water and doing okay with snow. the systems are developing off shore and this continues to rotate in. the pattern is favorable for more rainfall into the bay area weekend. as we go into the weekend, it comes from the north. snow levels calm down and rainfall accumulations will become less. the coastal hills have a tendency to take the moisture, lift it up, it cools, condenses and more rain drops out. the santa cruz mountains it 8 inches of rain. 15 miles across to san jose, 10 10th of an inch of rain. all the rain is

as ktvu's ken pritchett reports, our snowpack is still well below normal. >> reporter: the word fromkiers almost any day this month was about the same as it was today. >> fresh powder, all day, really deep. you've got 12 to 14 inches of fresh. probably snowed three or four inches today. >> reporter: winter sputtered in january and february. >> we're all speculating for the winter march. we're seeing it, and we're not done yet. >> reporter: john manson said the area received 183 inches of snow in march. more than half of the ski season total dating back to october. but a miracle march for ski resorts isn't quite the same when it comes to our water supply. the snowpack. 2011 was a heavy snow year. the sierra snowpack on april 1 stood at 165% of normal. today, the snowpack is just 50% of normal. the good news is that reservoir levels are still healthy after last year. so the deluge of snow this march will ensure skiing until april and perhaps beyond. they're interested in the water content. how much water is there in the snowpack? between march 1, we only had 8 inches of water content.
