police officer chief ken raney to start speaking. that's him right there toward the right of the screen. we will hope he has something to say here in a moment. as allie just mentioned we did speak with the brother of the officer. he's a 42-year-old officer with a young daughter. here's chief kenton raney now. let's hear what he has to say. >> good evening. it's with a heavy heart that i have to announce the tragic loss of the first officer killed in the line of duty in the history of the b.a.r.t. police department. at approximately 1:45 today, members of our detective's unit were conducting a probation search in the city of dublin. when the officer was fatally struck by gunfire. our condolences goes out to the immediate family and friends. and the extended b.a.r.t. family. and the entire b.a.r.t. district. the alameda county sheriff's department will be conducting this investigation. we ask that everyone please give us a chance to catch our breath, breathe and we'll be doing an update probably tomorrow morning. but no questions tonig
