ken wayne is live along the embarkadero where fire crews are still at work at this hour. >> reporter: gasia, the fire was contained at 3:40 this afternoon. as you can see, the ladder truck is still pouring water on the structure and remains closed at the corner of lumbar street. the fire was reported at 1:50 this afternoon with large flames shooting through the roof of the two-story structure. at one point, part of the facade collapsed, so firefighters pulled back. >> pretty spectacular, the flames going through the roof. you can also see the facade has given way. the incident commander, he did a very good job of assessing the vulnerability of the structure and established what we call a collapse zone to make sure there was no one in front of the building. >> reporter: no one was hurt. one fire official confirmed there were welders inside the building, but it's not clear yet what started the fire. pier 29 has been undergoing renovation for the america's cup competition. >> it is now empty, and intend -- the terminal is going up just fine so it's a very lucky day. >> reporter: about 12

. >> and i'm ken wayne. a fire worker was injured when the fire sparked. debra villalon is live on the scene and tells us why it took pg & e so long to shut off the gas. >> that's the question tonight, ken. as these stretchers are being boarded up. we can tell you the worker was in this brown building under renovation, he was injured when the fire ruptured, he was burned. and the dental office and condos were heavily damaged. smoke billowed as firefighters tried to douse flames in this building. while at street level they scrambled to keep this one inch gas line saturated for safety. natural gas flowed uncontrolled for almost two hours, too long the fire chief says. >> did you see a challenge for trying to determine the shut off for the valve. >> it took a little longer than i would have liked, yes. >> reporter: pg & e says it got here in 20 minutes but couldn't pinch off the actual leak because of the flames. so crews dug to shut off the valve. that office was full, two dozen dentists, staff and patients who saw fire torching out of the ground and were te

i'm ken wayne. >> a red flag warning up tonight with temperatures expected to reach triple digits in the bay area this weekend. firefighters already had to rush this afternoon to contain a fire that burned 300 acres in a sparsely populated area of alameda county. we have team coverage. bill martin tells us about the heat and will walker will join us with a red flag wanning. first we go to eric on the frontlines of that wildfire in the east bay. >> reporter: the frontlines of the investigation, investigators have been focusing on the area behind me. we brought another light out here tonight to show you what we are talking about. a pg&e worker said he thinks somebody, possibly a truck hit a phone line. that's the lower thicker of these lines and somehow just maybe that caused these power lines to spark and it could have been enough to start awful the dry brush and grass out here. what started as a small brush fire just outside a park this afternoon quickly spread to hundreds of acres up this hillside and convinced some to the park to get out. >> i saw a lot of smoke. it didn't look goo
