the priest shot and killed is father kenneth walker.a 28-year-old priest with archdiocese here in phoenix. the one badly beaten, 56-year-old by the name of father joseph terra. according to phoenix police about 9:00 last night they got a 911 call from the rectory. let me show you the rectory. right next to mother of mercy mission here in downtown phoenix. that call went in to 8911 saying there was a robbery. that was the 56-year-old father terra making that call. saying he was badly beaten. once police got here, they found father kenneth walker who had been shot and also father terra who had been badly beaten. both were rushed to the hospital. unfortunately, father kenneth walker was pronounced dead at the hospital. at this point, they are a loss as far as suspect information. but late last night at about 11:00 just two blocks north of here that's where they located a vehicle that is connected to the church here. it was described as a mazda tribute. police cordoned that area off. they went in. no suspects were found inside that vehicle.

let's bring in kenneth pollack. director for persian gulf affairs at the national security council under president clinton. now he's a senior fellow at the brookings institution. so ken, given we're not occupying the country anymore, what can and should we be doing about this situation? >> well, first you guys are absolutely right, that we need to recognize that our options in iraq are limited. and we should think about it this way. iraq went into civil war in 2006. what we're seeing today is simply a revival of exactly that civil war. in 2007-2008 the u.s. polled iraq through a massive military effort combined with a huge diplomatic effort. that's effectively what it would take to do the same thing this time around, and we just don't have those resources there that we did have at that point in time. anything we do is going to have to be a lot more limited and it's going to have to rely on other actors to help us out in a way we didn't have to rely on them back in 2007. >> and ken, another thing is -- that's differe

that economist, kenneth kim, is joining us now from princeton. great to have you with us.in what is this particular number all about and what did you find when you did a little digging? >> the ism is a widely followed manufacturing survey. it provides data on the performance of manufacturing for a given month. once i saw the original print, i thought that was shockingly weak because the consensus was looking for about 55.5. i went on to the website and started putting in the data as i usually do into my worksheet. the numbers that i was inputting off their website was not adding up to what the report and figures were. i did double checking, triple checking to make sure that i was right, but i still thought we haven't seen an error like this before in the past from the ism. i thought i was in error and there was something wrong with my spreadsheet. as i kept checking the data, the numbers still do not add up. after inputting all the unadjusted figures, i thought i would try something and i would use the judgment factors for the previous month for april as opposed to may whi
