well that happened because kenneth cheese pro, one of the defendants, in the case a lawyer made a motion for speed trial under the georgia statute. now under georgia law. he doesn't, defended, makes a speedy trial motion. the case must be tried within a certain period of time. and this case has to be tried by the end of october. the interesting question here, which is raised by some of the earlier commentary, is whether or not cheeseburger has motion for or a speedy trial will bring everyone else in the 19 defendant cavalcade. along to that same trial day, or whether it's possible under georgia law to sever out those other defendants, including mr. trump and let them have later trials. i'm not an expert on georgia severance law, so i really can't tell you the answer to that. and i want to ask a broader looking long term, forgive me, i'm actually just watching some of the shots that are coming in from us and the agency at the moment word that the plane that is carrying donald trump is not aligned to that. and as i mentioned before, it's sitting on the tarmac, the troop of s u, v. kenneth chesebro. saying that he was asked by the trump campaign to provide advice on issues related to constitutional and election lawch of the alleged overt acts that are attributed to mr. chesbro relate to his work as an attorney. that's the main part of that statement. i suspect that's going to be something that we repeatedly hear as we get more statements from the people who were also listed in the indictment. >> laura, let's talk about the size, the scope of this indictment. i think that was a surprise we are talking about 19 different people. i did a quick check. at least nine are lawyers. as i'm reading through, i'm thinking, this isn't bread crumbs. there are emails, text messages, phone messages, phone calls, public statements, public press conferences. risk versus strength. when you look at that idea that nine lawyers at least were involved in all of this, according to the indictment, what are the risks in the size of this? what are the strengths of this indictment? >> they certainly -- the prosecutors will argue they should have known better if they were lawyers. it appears at least in some of the communic

laws. you can include more things, you can tell a better story. but the speedy trial thing is also unusual to georgia. so the three people who have made speedy trial requests, kennethman, or at least expected to, i believe, john eastman, under georgia law that means that they can get their trial in the current session of the court or the next session of the court. these three, i don't know what the thinking is but they might be banking on the fact that fani willis isn't ready to go or won't be able to go by october. her response has been ready to go. you want to go on october 23rd? i'll meet you there. >> yeah, if they were bluffing, fani willis just called their bluff. and again, as we said earlier, she spent two years on this case. she has her documents ready. she is ready to go. and she showed by signaling that she's ready for an october date that again, if they were bluffing she's ready. they could also pull back that motion, and the prosecutors here say they can pull back this motion. they still have to look at discovery. there's a lot of other moving parts in this too. this could all be a feint by these two defendants who've already filed these motions but as

kenneth chesebro, one of the defendants has demanded his speedy trial rates. georgia has a strict speedy trial law that essentially says if a defendant wants to be tried quickly, he has the right to be tried what amounts to this case by november of this year, 2023, not 2024. the trial has to start by then. and the d.a. has agreed to this and the judge has agreed to this. now, the question is will any of the other defendants be pulled forward to have a trial that quickly. the d.a. fani willis has said i'm ready to try all 19 of them in late october 2023. the problem, though, is she cannot force people who don't want a speedy trial. she cannot force defendants who do not want -- >> obviously the former president does not want a speedy trial. >> tactically what this is going to do is lead us to a situation where we're going to have at least two speedy trials, maybe more. you get to see the government's whole case. you get to see the witnesses take the stand. you get to see cross-examination, what worked, what didn't. it's a very important move by kenneth chesebro and effect how this all plays out. >>

law here. it's obviously now being front and center with what we've seen. what does it mean, that both sidney powell and kenneth chesebro want to move up their trial? and is there any benefit to them in doing that? >> right, i think that for these particular defendants, they have a lot at stake. they are both practicing attorneys. you have to imagine that their livelihood is in limbo. based on these charges. they do have a reason to want to get them resolved as soon as possible. it also means that their case will be severed from the remaining codefendants who, although these two have requested a speedy trial, the judge can't force all 19 to go to trial in two months. those cases would be severed out. that also means that those cases, which are severed out, get kind of a sneak peek, right? at the evidence that is going to be presented in this case. although most of the evidence will be confined to the actions of these individuals, it is a rico case, so the state still has to make out the enterprise and the conspiracy. so some of that evidence will still come in in their trial. assuming -- and they may be tried t
