i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi. there has been a national outpouring of grief and anger over police shootings and deaths in louisiana and minnesota including in the bay area with protestors took over a freeway last night but in dallas, texas the unthinkable happened. gunfire broke out hitting and killing multiple officers. at least five police officers are dead this morning, six others in the hospital. and overnight, police ended a lengthy standoff with one of the suspects likely connected to the fatal shooting. at least two snipers are suspected to have carried out the attack. and, of course, this has caused grief in the dallas community and also across the country. we are seeing a lot of outpouring of support for law enforcement there and, of course, cbs's don champion is live in dallas with what we know at this point this morning. don. >> reporter: good morning. people here in dallas are waking up to a city that's essentially on lockdown. as you can see behind me, several parts of downtown are now considered crim

and i'm kenny choi. a deadly accident is causina major traffic nterstate 880. >>> good morning it's thursday, july 28. i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi. a deadly accident is causing a major traffic mess this morning on 880. kpix 5's anne makovec is live in oakland with the very latest. anne. >> reporter: yeah. >> reporter: it's a mess. they are taking the car involved in the accident off the road. this is 880 near the coliseum. that car has a smashed windshield. that car hit a pedestrian. somebody walking here in the northbound lanes at 880. so all of the lanes are closed down right now. traffic is being diverted on to 66. drivers are encouraged to take 580 in the meantime. you can see the lanes blocked off here and you can see the traffic that is getting off the freeway. a lot of police out here trying to figure out why there was a person walking in lanes. they think you will they will have the lanes closed down for this investigation for about two hours. so you can expect 880 here near the colise

and i'm kenny choi.out-of- control w nterey county coul >>> good morning, it's tuesday, july 26. i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi. a wildfire could hurt the air quality in the bay area. the soberanes fire has burned more than 16,000 acres north of big sur and it's only 10% contained. fire officials say that more than 1600 structures are at risk from the flames prompting a warning about the air quality in the southern portion of the bay area this morning. kpix 5's anne makovec joins us live from san jose with the details. >> reporter: you can't smell the smoke here. the fire is almost 100 miles away. but the smoke is contributing to the poor air quality here. so air officials are asking people to avoid driving today if you can. the hot temperatures and light witnesses are combining with vehicle exhaust and that's bringing a haze across the entire south bay.

i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi. a pair of suspects is due in court today in connection with an armored car heist in sonoma county. lisa chan reports. >> reporter: the two suspects face attempted murder, robbery and conspiracy charges. it ham tuesday outside the chase bank outside the shopping center in east win so. 22-year-old ivan morales of lake county and 24-year-old serge gutsu are being described as brazen criminals. authorities say it started sunday night when a man was held at gunpoint while playing "pokemon go" in a local park. this happened in antelope where gutsu lives. an armed man reportedly stole the man's phone, cash and keys to his suzuki. a connection hasn't been confirmed. but a similar car carrying two masked men pulled up behind a loomis truck tuesday outside the windsor chase bank at 1:50 p.m. in a shopping center full of people, one man fired an assault rifle and took bags of cash from the injured guard. the suspects took off and hundreds of law enforcement officers searched for them. >> around

i'm michelle griego. >> i'm kenny choi. we're continuing to follow breaking news in emeryville where a building under construction went up in flames. and as you can see from chopper 5, firefighters still have quite a challenge on their hands. kpix 5 reporter anne makovec is live at the scene with the very latest. anne. >> reporter: this fire has been burning for hours. you can see what's left of this building behind me. i'm at adeline and west macarthur. this is the frame of the building that was supposed to eventually be a condo mixed use building. it was under construction. five stories tall, this is very close to the oakland-emeryville border. the fire started at 2:30 this morning and check out the massive flames! drivers reported seeing this fire all over the east bay. it's very close to the macarthur maze. you can see it coming from several bay area freeways. flames were towering into the air. even the construction cranes were on fire. there are other condos and apartments in the area. some of them have been evacuated
