i'm emily turner in for michelle. >> i'm kenny choi. firefighters at the scene of a large fire in the cord board manufacturing plant. -- card board manufacturing plant. we're joining live from santa clara with the very latest. >> good morning to you both. >>reporter: we've been keep ago close eye on this and a lot of smoke and a lot of water being used on the storage yard for a card board manufacturing plant. that area is about 200 feet by 250 feet that they've been working on. he says that card board bales stacked and wrapped like hay bales and they do not believe they're still surveying right now. the plant runs 24 hours a day and there's good news here. all of the employees were evacuated and accounted for and it was about 15 people. we also talked to the battalion chief drew miller who says because of the holiday weekend, the plant had fewer bales that's definitely a good thing. >>reporter: there's also worries about a large liquid propane tank on site. that area is now secure. battalion chief spoke a short while ago and said the sp

and i'm kenny choi. let's get a look at high def doppler this morning... which is lit up...n green . >>> welcome back this monday, january 8th. >> right off the coastline there's more to come. this is just the beginning of this storm system. a lot of people waking up to the sound of rain this morning with slick roads and heavy rain. across san francisco we have areas of about a quarter to a half inch of rain per hour coming down. right along highway 101 it's really picked up. these are the areas that are of concern because where the burn scars occurred all over the fires, those could lead to mudslides. of course berkeley, kensington, we have seen rain coming down there for a while. expect a lot of ponding because the rain is going to stay intense. we'll track the timing for you coming up in a few minutes. >> reporter: we are at 17th street and fulsom, and this is where they have barriers put up here. take a look, ponding already in the area. this is really a problem spot every time we have a major rain event. this area forces street closures, and they are worried about possi

first rain is -- kenny choy. first rain is moving through parts of the bay area and high def doppler lit up this morning and green and yellow in some parts and a nice shot, clear shot of the bay bridge this morning and that is tracking the forecast. >> a weak storm coming through overnight and right now very light drizzle for parts of the north bay. as far as rain totals go, we got about a tenth of an inch for places like santa rosa. it's all pretty much moved out east. now the foothills and the higher elevation and parts of the sierra and what's behind him is all the fog and we're impacted by more of the wet roads out there and not too bad and no bonding occurred and not enough rain fall and notice what hit the roads is half mile visibility at half-moon bay and dropping right there. napa improving a bit and getting a bit of wind there that's helping push that fog out but santa rosa down to 1.7- mile visibility and dense fog advisory in effect till 11 1:00 this morning -- 11:00 this morning and if you're heading

i'm kenny choi. >> i'm michelle griego. anne makovec is live at city hall in san francisco with the latest. >>> reporter: in this case saying yes to letting the "dreamers" stay means saying yes to the wall. so that is a catch-22 for some politicians. here's a look at the plan right now as laid out by the trump administration. it would put 1.8 million immigrants brought to america illegally by their parents on a path to citizenship if they meet certain requirements like work, education and good moral character. in exchange, the white house wants $30 billion in border security funding, 25 billion of that for the wall. it also scales back the visa lottery system and limits legal immigration through close family ties. it was a big topic at california's gubernatorial debate last night in southern california. >> we all get we're going to have to compromise. but increasing deportation in our cities, um, building a wall at $30 billion, isn't a compromise. >> i think the spread actually -- i think the president is actually suggestin

i'm kenny choi. dramatic scene this morning in san jose where a three-alarm fire has displaced several people. kpix 5's jessica flores joins us live from san jose where crews are still on the scene. >> reporter: that fast-moving fire raced through the south san jose apartment complex in the middle of the night shortly after midnight people inside fast asleep. and let's take a look at what we're looking at out here. you can see a two-story apartment complex, in total four units destroyed. there's really nothing left behind. right now we have seen a couple of firefighters still on scene but for the most part, they are cleaned up here mopped up. it's a lot of debris left behind. in the middle of the night, firefighters bang on doors. they tried to get everyone to safety. eventually evacuating 16 people including five children plus pets. we talked to some residents here who say the fire started first on the first floor and spread to the second floor. they were frightened trying to escape. >> i hear some

. >> i'm kenny choi. it's friday, january 5th. this is a look at the golden gate bridge on the left. it's dry now but hi-def doppler you can see on the right lit up in many parts of the bay area as the rain moves through the north bay today. we are looking at yellow and orange on the screen. >> that's a sign of a about quarter inch of rain per hour in some areas. this system will be moving out east. so right now guerneville you just got some more raindrops there. i have been watching that area for the past hour or so getting hit with some decent amount of showers. santa rosa will get the rain next. it picked up across highway 1. look at the rain coming down it was light drizzle about 10 minutes ago. so it's increasing in the morning hours as you start that morning commute. please keep that in mind. it's winding down in cordelia and vallejo. it just wrapped up there. but the wider image shows please plenty to come on the coastline. that's headed towards land of course. some in san francisco could see the rain half moon bay as well

i'm kenny choi, let's get a look on this tuesday morning, high-def doppler lit up. you can see all the green, yellow and orange on the right. and you've got a shot of traffic on the left. all of those rain drops there. neda iranpour is in the weather center, tracking this storm. >> reporter: we're not seeing this anywhere near as widespread as this morning. we are seeing scatter shoeded shower -- scattered showers on our high-def doppler. we saw significant amount of rainfall for the past 24 hours. so thankfully, it's winding down a little bit, so that your commute is a little easier than yesterday. but in pitsburg and antioch, continuing to see heavier rainfall there. you're going to see more ponding on the road in that area. it just started picking up near herculless -- hercules and richmond area. so right around the bay, looks like it just started to pick up. seeing those lighter showers throughout the area. just a few rain drops on the windshield is what we're expecting for most of us today. interstate 680, a little further to the south. you're going to see rain

and i'm kenny choi. let's get a check on traffic. neda, it's been quite something. >> we have seen steady rainfall for the past couple of days, and it's now down to just scattered showers. decent amounts of rain coming down and started picking up in antioch. you are seeing a little more of that rainfall, a little bigger drones coming down, a a little louder as you wake up. but nowhere near what we saw yesterday at this time. and overnight last night. we definitely got a significant downpour that came all across the bay area. really, no one was dry yesterday. san ramon, dublin now. 680, danville as well, seeing continued showers there. and these rates around the area in yellow. about a quarter inch per hour. but it's not staying put. so the cells are really quick to move out of there. i've been watching what is going on across parts of the south bay. but it's very light. and you're seeing a little bit more right along 680. milipitas, dried up. santa clara, also starting to see all of that winding down. around the bay, san rafael, nova

[ siren ] >> reporter: that is the sound of a tsunami warning siren going off in alaska, to warn people of the danger. you can see this video of cars lining up to evacuate the town of kodiak. that was when it was a warning there. then it was downgraded to an advisory, which was canceled about an hour ago.
