joining us is bp and kenny polcari director with o'neill securities. kenny, you and i both were in this market in 1985. >> that was a picture of you. you were a runner back then. >> i was 29. stop it. i covered 1895 at that point, working for financial news network. >> 1987. >> you were a broker for two years, right? >> 26 years old. >> it changes the way you think of the market forever, doesn't it? >> it does. it took a long time, especially i was just really brand new, right? i was 26. so i was just getting my feet wet when that happened and so i remember going home and saying to my wife, i think it's over. like i -- like when i went home that day, it was devastation, right. it took some time to rebounce, to get your confidence back again and i think that's what's happening now after the crisis we lived through, it's taking time. a lot of people have cashed in but -- >> wait. i have breaking news from dominic and bob, to you. >> it concerns jpmorgan. >> absolutely. you want to call your attention to shares of jpmorgan because what you've seen is an in

back to kenny polcari. jj saying a tale of two markets. you've seen that to a certain extent as well. >> we have. overall the retail investor has to be somebody who has the plan, right. working with his planner, a much broader plan. the retail investor should not be someone that's just jumping in and out because for them that's a losing proposition, not what they do every day of their life. they're not traders that are in and out. >> the ability to time the market is so -- >> it's very difficult and it's just a losing strategy for most people. people have to stick to the plan. now, like we were discussing off camera, stocks that have moved and we've said it before, stocks that have moved have done very well that investors should take some money off and plow it back to stocks that have underperformed that you view will do well in the coming year. >> to jump on board, the areas that haven't done well like emerging markets looking at asia-pacific region, the uk. >> talk about that in a few minutes. >> you're looking at 13, 14 times earnings.

. >> we have kenny polcari here as well. we want your thoughts on the stock market. the vix is still low, too. where should we -- >> you all make a very good point. companies buying back their stock, so they're forcing prices higher. the fed kind of feeding the market and causing a complete disconnect between what the fundamentals are and where are investors supposed to go to earn returns. therefore there is that disconnect and that sense of a bubble brewing, right? although today look at the market. we're essentially flat maybe up marginally, right? but i think the average investor needs to understand, at points like this, you need to take -- look at the outliers to really outperform and take the money from there and reallocate it into the assets that are not. >> you heard charles schwab saying client assets are up double digits. the retail investor are coming back. are they coming back at a time when the market's about to pop? >> we heard from robert this morning because they're putting more emphasis on the equity side of their business. so look, yes, the retail in
