the shooting happened on the 3500 block of stounton street in kensington.teve patterson is live at temple hospital where the girl is being treated. >> reporter: after that 13-year-old girl was shot she was rushed here to temple university hospital. now, we have been speaking to the family throughout the day. they tell us her condition is improving but their disposition is not after a full day where their child nearly died and no one from their community has stepped forward with information. >> stop worrying about being snitches, stop worrying about being rats. my niece needs a hero at this moment. >> reporter: when shots are fired in kensington, heroes can be hard to find. >> she needs justice. she needs answers. she needs to know why. she was outside playing. somebody shot a bullet at her. >> reporter: ada ortiz says her hero is likely on this block. she believes someone here knows who pulled the trig they are put her niece in the emergency room. all she wants is that person to step forward. >> i'm just hurt for the fact that nobody is standing up for her.

for the person who shot and killed a man in a philadelphia neighborhood along stout ton street in kensington. it is not clear what led to that violence. >>> today philadelphia law enforcement will hit the basketball court with some young people. >> this is all part of an effort to come together with the community, especially at this time of national unrest between police and the public. sabina kuriakose reports her neighbors in kensington are heart broken, just tired every all of the violence. >> reporter: tearful neighbors too upset to speak on camera, as they describe the moment after 13 year old girl was brutally shot and wounded outside her home here along the 3500 block of stouton street in kensington about 11:30. police canvassed looking for clues, they say the girl sitting on the stoop of a row home here with two other children, 12 and 14 year old boys. the kids telling police they heard gunshots, and saw two hooded men armed with guns running down adjacent atlantic street shooting as they ran. neighbors duck for cover. those who know her say the girl is a straight a student and they don't believe she was the intended target. >> it is really upsetting. it is a major tragedy. bad thing terrible thing. >> people who live here say the young girl visits relatives on this block every other weekends. investigators say she ran home after being shot. family members lay her down and called 911. saturday several families who live here saying the block is always full of childr
