nbc's kerry sanders is at atlanta's hartsfield-jackson international airport. power is on. airport is open. how fast, how much of a backlog do they have as a result of this? in other words, how quickly do things start to feel normal again? >> reporter: it's a tremendous backlog because, as you noted, 1100 flights yesterday that didn't get out of atlanta. most of those are delta flights. delta airlines is having to deal with the problem that was handed to them by the airport by a power outage. let's first take you to the power outage source location. these are the pictures taken by georgia power. one, you can see sort of a burned area there. that's what they call a switch that caught fire. the fire moved up the wall. in this other picture, you see a technician working on the wires. there's seven wires. some of the wires are the main source of power. the problem is, on top of those were the redundant wires. in other words, if they lost one or two, they could use the other wires to provide electricity. because the fire moved up the wall, it burned the whole system. the primary
