nbc's kerry sanders is following the story for us.c news this morning it was one very large shark that attacked jordan lindsey. she, the california student, was out in the water snorkeling with her family and other tourists when this tragedy unfolded. this morning a california family still in shock. their bahamas vacation taking a horrific turn. officials telling nbc news it's believed this tiger shark attacked 21-year-old jordan lindsey. the california college student died after suffering devastating injuries. her right arm torn off and multiple bites to other parts of her body. her father saying in a statement she'd been snorkeling will her mother before the attack. my wife tried her best to get her up to the shore but unfortunately jordan lost too much blood. a professor at her school loyola marymount university says the communications major was passionate about animals. >> in some ways not a surprise that she would be in nature doing the thing she loved to do. >> reporter: despite what happened, some families say it won't interrup

nbc's kerry sanders has the latest on this turn of events. good morning. >> reporter: good morning.cot peterson, the former deputy, will be in bond court later this morning. his lawyer challenged the probable cause for these charges which are rare. peterson was the only armed officer at the parkland school shooting. arrested and charged not for what he did, but what what he did not do. >> scott peter is find bars. for what he failed to do. >> reporter: peterson was the only armed depth at marjory stoneman douglas high school when former student nicklaus cruz stormed the school and killed 14 students and three staffers. >> stoneman douglas. >> reporter: surveillance video shows peterson never entered the building as the gunman went floor to floor firing more than 140 rounds with an assault rifle. peterson is now charged with child neglect, culpable negligence and perjury. state investigators say there is no question that his inaction cost lives. some parents of students killed that day say peterson should be held accountable. >> he needs to go to jail and he needs to serve a lifetime
