kevin: excellent. next one. either come across newark valley, african-american community near aven's -- adams, and how common was it for enlistees who are black assigned to all white regiments, as in in roles of subservient labor? >> that is where the valentine family lived, in newark valley, adams county. so the two sons went into that u.s. color trips. and one of the grandsons and listed a wisconsin regiment along with three or four people from that community. the regiment was recruited locally in adams county and these dyes were taken into that regiment. but they were listed officially as privates. but they were also listed as cooks. they were in white regiments, that was fairly late in the war. there was another earlier in the war somebody from adams county , who attempted to enlist and was refused. he attempted to volunteer for wisconsin regiment and was refused, and that was probably 1863, 1864. they they were at that point accepting them. document account but the valentine family, there were others, manle
