joining me now, writer and civil rights a s activist kevin alexa gray., what in the world is going on in south carolina that this is the selection that was made by this college? >> well, obviously it's politics and then you have to look at the history of this state. this state's history is based on the confederacy. based on the enslavement of africans. july the 1st happens to be my birthday. we signed the declaration of independence on the 4th because south carolina refused to sign it, one of the founders of the college of charleston refused to sign the declaration until the anti-slavery clause was taken out of it. so a lot of what happens here in this state, a lot of what happens in charleston, you know, of all the africans that came into this country, rate of a half a million, 40% to 60% came in through the island. everything about south carolina from the streets to the buildings, to the statehouse grounds are memorials to the confederacy and this whole cult of the lost cause. and the people that venerate the confederacy refuse to accept the fact that

kevin, by the way, thank you for the compliment. we've been bringing up the nasdaq. i don't know if we have time to call an audible. can we bring up the s's down 2.25%. we're not just seeing the higher valuation names. we're seeing the smaller names, too. if you had to buy a stock today, would you go mega cap? >> well, we've been seeing value in two places. we've been seeing value in technology and health care. i would say over the last month or so, we've added a few names in those sectors. balance sheets are good, valuations in old tech seem pretty good, health care looks pretty good. over the last month or so we have been adding a couple names there, but nothing really stands out today, but i will also say if you're looking at technicals in the market which -- >> many do. >> a lot of people do. >> we do. >> every day. >> a lot of people do. i tend to be more of a value guy, but if you're a technician, you may be looking at this market and not liking the action technically. you may wouldn't to take some risk off and you will go to your highest beta and most volatile things which would be the biotechs and small caps. >> sit tight for a

kevin, investors are punishing the stocks. it's one of the worst performers in the s were a lot of special items. talk about what you saw in the quarter. were you disappointed? >> no, overall, sarah, if you look beyond kind of the reported number, our core operating results were fairly solid. from that standpoint. we do own, as you know, or as you're aware, we do own a significant portion of our ipo'd processing company and the warrants on that stock that we own influenced the printed number. as i think folks get to see the core underlying performance of the company, they'll realize that it was a fairly strong quarter for us from that perspective. >> another weight, kevin, looks like the $51 million litigation reserve. what kind of regulatory environment are you dealing with right now? >> i don't think that's news at all, sarah. it's a challenging regulatory environment. and so, litigation reserve in this environment is something you don't plan for. but certainly we had a strong enough earnings performance to be able to cover those types of issues that come up, and un
