myers, kevin anderson. mayor anderson, thanks so much for joining us. i know you're busy. thanks for hopping on the phone just to if i was an update as to what is going on. it just looks like a weather war zone here in your community. the death toll has been raised up to 65. is there anything you're receiving, an indication at this point that that number could go higher? . >> well, actually, jim, the city of ft. myers is very compact compared to the rest of the county. we didn't bear the bankrupt of the storm like the beach and the islands did. we had a lot of flooding as of right now in the city of ft. myers, we have not experienced any loss of life. >> okay. that's good news. let me just ask you this. because i've been talking to residents and female who survived the storm, survivors all morning long. one of the anecdotes we are hearing is many people were caught offguard to some extent by hurricane ian. yes, they knew a hurricane was coming to this part of the gulf coast. they thought because the weather forecast said it might head towards tampa ta that it might not com

kevin anderson, joining us right now. how are things going right now where you are, sir?d as a ability within lee county. and within the city itself, things are going extremely well. we've got more than 85% of the power back on. water is coming back on. our roads are clear. we are starting to prepickup. so, things are progressing very nicely. we saw the big challenge. >> neil: i understand lee county is where a lot of the search and flooding occurred and drownings had occurred. how is it looking now? as you look at the whole county? >> i was down at the president's press conference at fort myers beach this afternoon. so, i got to see the beach area for the first time. it is devastated. it is going to take a while for the beach to recover. >> neil: you know i was thinking fort myers and you would know this better than i would, that was the draw across the country. fort myers the biggest boom town in the country. obviously, there is a world of hurt there. and hoping to build up again, but how do you see it going the rest of the year? and then into next year? >> well, i thin

joining me now is the city's mayor, kevin anderson.ayor anderson, thank you for joining us on this. cannot imagine what your community is feeling today. just a few days now after the storm has passed through. the images are just devastating. talk to me about what you have been seeing there so far. what your community has experienced? >> so you know, actually fort myers is very lucky. while we took a direct hit, we did not sustain the damages nearly what fort myers beach, sanibel, matlacha and -- sustained. we dealt with some wind damage and flooding. we have had now reported loss of life. the people in fort myers, the ones i've had contact with are in a good -- very thankful that it was not worse. and they are praying for their communities around us who suffered much greater loss. >> so describe to me specifically what we have been seeing and fort myers. we were showing images as you are speaking of fort myers beach. which had absolute devastation and a wipe out after the storm passed through their. it seems like you guys as you said g
