cbs 2 news reporter kevin barry sat down with the governor to talk about his plan for the future of medicaid that's the governor's plan to hand the state's medicaid program to 4 private companies is consistent with the work he did at the very beginning of his time as governor. when he took over in 1983 - the state was in a steep deficit.through careful money management, branstad turned that into a never-before seen 900-million dollar surplus. state agencies have said that the cost of medicaid to the state has sharply increased - so moving it to private companies would help ease the burden. the problem is that many people on medicaid are worried their coverage won't carry over - and healthcare providers are also pushing for a delay because they say they don't have enough time to make the change smoothly. were gonna have a safe harbor for three more months where they get full reimbursement even if thy haven't signed their contract so we think this is going to give them an opportunity to work out the details. iowa is still waiting on investigators from the centers for medicare and medicaid serv
