kevin brady: it's a huge number. the last 8 years inequality and wages grew because we didn't have a tax code. the regulations were powrndle on people. so i think the best way that we can create more income equality in america is to simplify the code, get this economy moving and give people the chance to move up that ladder. maria: let's talk about what you would like to see happen. you have got this post card, simple fair:post card tax filing. you think they will be able to do their taxes on a postcard even though it's 70,000 pages? >> we look at this better than 9 out of 10 people will be able to use a postcard style system to file their taxes. we flatten out the brackets from 7 to 3. we lower the rates at every level. it's important we keep more of what we earn. we double the standard deduction. if you are a young person starting out and a middle class family pinching every penny, that really matters. then we go deeper to help people save. and we keep on the post card the items most families rely on, the home mort

i think the difficulty here will be -- when kevin brady met with members of the committee -- and it was a constructive meeting. he did point out that they would adhere to revenue neutrality. that they would move a prescribed number of dollars in the current system. where i think there will be broad disagreement is on his suggestion that he will not if year to distributional neutrality. there was a enough resistance there that will come in on the democratic side. thele at the top of american economic latter are not pining for tax cuts. they were not pining for them in 2001 or in 2003 when we cut taxes. many of them are suggesting that if you are going to transform the tax system, let us do it in an equitable way where it improves the quality of life for all members of the american family. a you talked about having constructive meeting. what was your take on the statement that was released late last month from the big six republicans who are leading this effort? >> i think they could have made it the big eight and included ron white and myself. place ino what took the white house back in

neal: kevin brady said they should already continue. there will be hearings in the september. cost-sharing subsidies were agreed to and they should be paid. one reason we are hearing the objections from the insurance industry about premium increases is largely because of the uncertainty that now plagues the discussion across america. there were two things i think the trump administration canoe immediately. one, tell them that we fully intend to pay our obligations on the cost sharing. and secondly, that he intends to enforce the mandate. the mandate is the glue that holds the aca together. this notion that people shouldn't have to buy health insurance is what spikes the market. we need to get younger and healthier people into the system for the sign-up. so you will have a pretty good idea in september as to what that means. but right now, the insurance industry, which was embraced for the purpose of offering price discipline, the insurance industry is coming of with projections that are not based on any sense of reality other than what they think might happen without cost shar
