i'm joined by kevin cirilli a reporter for the hill. good morning, kevin. >> happy friday.ks for having me. >> kevin mccarthy dropping out of contention. who does that leave to fill the speakership? >> you've got people like representative chaffetz. you've got people like representative webster. i think that the other two people to watch are trey gowdy and jeb hensarling the latter being a rising tea party star from texas. he is also the chairman of the house financial services committee. but dara, i got to be honest, lots of pressure on representative paul ryan this morning, despite him being adamant that he doesn't want the job. but -- so watch obviously paul ryan, too. >> but if he said he doesn't want the job, what is it going to take to get him back into the race and possibly, you know, take the leadership? >> lots of conversations happening last night. and meetings scheduled for later this morning with the republican conference. where all of this is expected to be hammered out. he's got to remember that yes the politics of this are fascinating. but on november 5th, ou

once again it's friday and that means the hill's kevin cirilli is with us. >> happy friday.having me. >> absolutely. let's get to hillary clinton and we'll get back to ben carson. first, did her measured response to the 11-hour grilling on benghazi really help her campaign? >> you know, she was able to walk away from 11 hours of testimony. think about that. an 11-hour job interview, if you will, without a major, significant gaffe. now, of course, i think republicans will say that there are more questions that are left to be answered. but democrats are probably feeling pretty good this morning that vice president joe biden is not in the race. she's got good poll numbers after the first presidential debate. and of course, a strong showing yesterday on capitol hill. >> yeah, but can republicans really spin it as more questions than answers? because even trey gowdy who chairs the committee heading up the hearing admits nothing new was revealed, despite hours of questioning. so will that lead voters to view this as a partisan witch-hunt? >> you know what else is really interestin

we're joined by kevin cirilli reporting for the hill. good morning, kevin. >> happy friday, betty.srespect to ann romney but i had two pretty freakin' awesome grandmas growing up. >> they don't dress like that? >> they had style. they had a lot of swag. >> no hat tilted to the side? let's talk about donald trump for a second. he's been saying he's spending his own money, but, turns out he's really spending donor money? explain this. >> well, he's been spending a little bit of donor money. but i actually interviewed mr. trump in new york earlier this week for a candid ott-minute sit down and he is adamant that he is going to be self-financing his campaign. but you're right. he has been drawing in smaller donations. but he's not taking big money from -- from large donors at all. from lobbyists or what have you. >> but breaking it down, here's what we understand, that 12% of the money spent is for hats and t-shirts. that's about a half a million bucks. and those are not being given away. they're being sold, kind of sounds like a lucrative business plan to me. >> well, you know, he is

okay, we're joined now by bloomberg reporter kevin cirilli and he's not packing any heat today. try not to talk over each other. good morning. >> happy friday, betty. thanks for having me. >> sure. >> so jeb bush seemed really frustrated, and really focused on attacking marco rubio, in particular. but here's the problem. that strategy did not work during this week's debate. so why is he continuing on with this? >> you know, it backfired and there are reports this morning that there's a 120-page internal document within the bush campaign that weighs out a strategy to attack senator rubio. but, you know, betty, what's interesting here is that former florida governor jeb bush was actually the political mentor of senator rubio. >> right. >> so it's like the mentee has now surpassed the mentor. but that debate was painfully awkward to watch. governor bush attack senator rubio. he has really failed to kind of communicate at this moment in american history when there's a craving for an outsider candidate why governor bush should be the nominee. >> speaking of communication, bush is sit

in washington i'm joined by the hill's kevin cirilli. good morning to you. >> good morning, betty. happy friday on the day after a terrible tragedy. >> yeah. i want to talk about that. because the president was visibly frustrated, and said by all means, this should be a political issue. will lawmakers finally do something about this? >> you know, betty, i think a really powerful moment yesterday during the president's remarks were when he said, quote/unquote that prayers were not enough. clearly this coming just days after pope francis leaving the united states. but i got to tell you, while we are hearing from 2016 presidential candidates denouncing this senseless act of violence, i'm not sure that there will be a policy change to match the politics. hillary clinton did call yesterday for there to be renewed talks on gun control. but that being said, i don't think that the current political climate is going to have any type of influence on a bipartisan measure. we all remember what happened after sandy hook. >> i'm going to get to those candidates in just a second. but, so wherein
